Scary Halloween records

I remember when I was 11 and my friend Laura came over and brought this record.

I put it on the living room stereo, we turned out the lights and listened. We were OK during the cheesy version of Monster Mash, but once those spooky sounds started playing, we were hiding under the blanket on the couch. When the sounds got really scary, we squished ourselves under the coffee table.:terror: Even though it scared the snot outta me, I had to have this record. I talked my mom into going to Woolworth's to pick out my costume and this album. But right next to it, I saw this record.

And remembering how scared I was listening to Laura's record, I opted for this one. I still have it, (and not a scratch on it!) But in adult life, my thoughts drifted back to Halloweens past and my old friend Laura, so I found the Sounds Of Terror on Ebay and bought it.

I did also have a spooky sounds record from the back of a cereal box the year before, but something happened to it and I never saw it again.:sarky:

I had the Disney Haunted Mansion record that I used for most of my Halloween parties when I was a kid. A few months ago I was lucky enough to score a sealed copy on ebay.

It was the Disney record for me, too. I don't remember ever being scared by it, but it was a blast to play in the dark while I played with my Ghost Gun.

My buddy next door had that one or one very similar with Monster Mash and other similar songs. That would be a blast to hear again.

I have to find the link in my favorites list, but there was one blog where the whole thing was dedicated to just sharing and uploading these types of old halloween/horror records

If you're talking about Forbidden Crypts, the sound bytes were removed. I loved that site. The blogs are still on scarstuff.com

I also had the Monster Mash - Sounds of Terror record album and I believe it was among the first few records that I bought with my allowence (the other two being Elvis's Separate Ways and the first Dark Shadows record from a sale bin). My favorites were "The Werewolf Attacks" and "Jack The Ripper". "Night of Lost Souls" was way too creepy for me that I rarely played that side of the record until I grew older. The narrator's voice seemed more creepier than the sounds.

I played the Dark Shadows record over and over because I loved Barnabas (Jonathan Frid) and Quentin (David Shelby) reciting poetry. I actually had the record before I watched the gothic soap opera.

I remember getting the Headless Horseman story record from the back of a cereal box (I want to say Honeycombs but I could be mistaken). I also had a Goofy Sounds of Terror 8 track. I sent off for the Famous Monsters Speak from an ad in the back of an issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland and enjoying it since it had an old-time radio vibe to it.

This is sad, read where the tapes ended up. All this found less than a week ago.

OMG! That is crazy! I would love to hear those tapes! Wade Denning had a very versatile style and could imitate many accents and dialects. What a waste. :no:

Yep, those tapes would be cool to hear and definitely some history there, let alone the guy's life. The tape machines were probably what all these great sounds were recorded on.

Okay the tapes are at the bottom of a water-filled dumpster, probably trashed. Wade Dennings grandson told me (as we were loading this stuff up) that his family had called museums,radio clubs,record collectors etc,and was basically told to call the Salvation army. They were happy that I was willing to rescue all this stuff from the trash

Yes! Our family had that Disney Record too. In fact I still have it. I remember taking my parent's HUGE record speakers & dragging them to the front window of the house. We blasted the whole neighborhood & everybody loved it....ahhh, good times.
