While not a household name in North America, Franz Beckenbauer is largely regarded as the greatest German Footballer (soccer player in north America) of all time. This legendary sweeper would eventually play for the New York Cosmos but in the 70s, he was such a celebrity in Germany that he got his own mego action figure.
The photo above (from the collection of Chris Johnson) shows a carded Franz. Not only is the doll's packaging remeniscant of the Ali line but the doll itself is the same body, with the activator powering the legs as opposed to the arms. Mego not only licensed Franz but his trademark Adidas outfit as well. Franz came with a great deal of accessories and wardrobe changes, so it is difficult to one loose complete. .
