    file under VERY megolike

I got some of the wave 2 RAs in today and gave the Batman to my son.
After the obigatory removal of the accessories, my daughter asks me what happened to his gloves.

    I dunno, I say. why?

She tells me he is not wearing any. And sure enough, we have a flesh hand Bats. Couldn't see them wrapped up in the cape. They are supposed to be blue, right?

I then told my son he might want to leave the jumper on because the on/off routine is what made Superman's S get cracked. Of course, he does not want to listen to that. If it has snaps, it is made to come off. Two minutes later I hear the cry.

"His Bat came off - help help! Papa, his bat came off!!"

    What!

So, now I have a Batman who within five minutes of playtime has lost his 'gloves' and his sticker. If that ain't Megolike, I don't know what is.

On one level I am amused; the other levels are getting ready to call Matty's support line.

Yes, that sounds very Mego like. Kudos for giving these to your kids (they are toys after all), and I'm sure the Mattel folks will be happy to help you under the circumstances.

On the other hand, the people at Mattel may just say, "What on earth were you thinking when you put these in the hands of children?!"
Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.

Great to hear your boy has a Batman. My oldest wants one REALLY bad (see my markeplace post). He will probably on/off the mask about a million times like I did when I got mine about 15 years ago. .

Sad to hear the emblem came off. A good, vinyl sticker should stick to it very well if Mattel doesn't help out. The gloves situation is a bit of poor Q/C so I can say fairly confidently, Mattel will step up.

Edited to add: VERY Mego like. I remember my poor Batman lost his sticker fairly quickly as a kid. I don't even know where it went. Just fell off somewhere. lol. I was anal about my Mego and Joe's accessories though. Never lost a belt, a glove, nothing.

^^ nah, the Mattel folks say that at the end of the day they are supposed to be just like old figures and that is half the fun. They didn't mention that they had found ways to accelerate the aging process for the toys.

              Update:

Mattel has indeed offered a voucher for the item. I could also pursue a replacement from the folks I got it from which would certainly be more involved. I think we will just try to find one with blue hands from the TrU when they show up and hope the bat emblem thing was a fluke.

The material for the batsuit seems to not want to hold onto the emblem at all. These were heatsealed, right? Maybe we can just try to iron it back on. I dunno tho, this material feels like it could melt easily with the wrong amount of heat. The emblem on his Superman figure just sort of crackled, but it never lifted away from the cloth. I can deal with the distressed emblem look, but I have seen enough batless batman figures over the years. Like I said, very megolike.

I am more bummed out that he had to stop playing with it while I figured out what the return situation was. He was having an awfully good time before the emblem popped off.

Two major differences. Unless you lost the original Batman's gloves, you could put them back on, and unless you lost his emblem, you could glue it back on. I can't believe Mattel can't even get the emblems right on these.

That is a bitter sweet story. I hope all goes well and your boy is back in business again soon.

I'm going to look into this. I just got my own Batman myself and the damn emblem spreads open when the abric is pulled. It looks screen printed to me.

We specifically said that the process should be a heat seal, similar to how the "4" was sealed on the Fantastic Four. I have no idea what happened, whether it was a cost savings during production or what, but it was NOT what we specified when designing the figure.

No promises, of course, but this is clearly an issue.

the bat I have is not like a screen print. It is more like one of those little tags that remind you to change your oil that the station attendants put in the corner of your car window - only much much thinner. It seems like it could be reattached, but when you put it up against the jumper material, it just slides right off.

As stated above, Mattel has done what they see is acceptable to make this right for me by offering me a voucher, and I am mostly OK with that.

What concerns me more is that this is another item in a list of issues with this product and that Jack and Jacky aren't going to keep purchasing these for their kiddos if they come apart this easily. Bats is pretty high profile as well.

keep on tweeking and it'll get right ..... right?

At least with the flesh hand Batman, you can make him into a Bruce Wayne figure without a body swap. Just buy another one with blue hands (and play with him til the emblem falls off again...).

In fact, if you want I'll buy him off you to save me the trouble...

^^ I was thinking of picking up a BW suit or cobbling something together and just getting another Bats whenever they show up at the TrU near us. I was also thinking of making some blue spandex mittens for him and seeing how that went with the cuff/gauntlets.

Now I am getting ideas of making a Bats/Robin - Bruce/Dick setup with a couple of redone Enterprise transporters as the batpoles leading into the batcave. Uh oh.

Ditto here. Mine is fraying around the edges b/c I had the costume off for 10 minutes while doing a body swap. Very frustrating.
