Signature picture info --- Can't download

I have a question.
Am trying to download a new signature picture ....
It say's ----- Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 500 by 100 pixels or 20.0 KB (whichever is smaller).

I sized up a nice picture to 500 x 100 and no matter what I do it won't download.
I keep getting --- Your file of 29.4 KB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 20.0 KB for this filetype.

The smallest KB I can get the picture down is 22 which is still too big...

I've had this problem before.

No matter what I do I can never get a 500 x 100 picture down to under 20.0KB

I think the Museum should change the 500 x 100 writing because it seems impossible to get a 500 x 100 picture in there under 20 KB unless you download just a blank screen.

What format are you saving the pic as? Sometimes different formats'll use less memory.

Hmmmm....

I prefer .jpg stuff. That seems to be the smallest, although a lot of pros I know use .gif. You can probably scale the pic down.... Did you scan it yourself? If so, maybe scan at a higer resolution beforehand so's to not smudge it.
