    the old days

I'll admit these figures should stand and the emblems should be more durable, don't get me started on the plastic snaps. I am still a big fan, I feel sad Wave 2 has yet to hit the stores. I can remember the problems from the orginal Megos, paint rubs, loose stiching, heads which fell off, broken rubber bands. just to name a few. I have to say even though it is super annoying these don't stand, they are better made than the old days.

... and the shame is that it would take SO LITTLE to address the concerns buyers are having with these figures....

Fix the legs/hips, make sure the emblems get enough heat to adhere, use a thicker card stock for the backer card. Boom. Done.

Everything else is great on these, as far as I'm concerned.

I believe that you would be right. As Joe stated above they are what they are. I think a lot of us would just like to get what we pay for. That really is not asking too much in the grand scheme of things.

I think most of us had a lot higher expectations of Mattel doing much better with these given that they actually had history to go by. It was not like Mego doing them for the first time and failing. Mego did quite an awesome job given what little that they had to work with back in the day. With modern day technologies one would think that things would be better not worse.

The bottom line is this. IF you are going to sell a figure or anything for that matter for $20.00 at least make it worth it.

    I totally agree.
My son is 15, some may remember meeting him at mego meet recently.
He thought the "worn" look of the cards was a slop-job...he didn't understand either the cards were supposed to look that way.
He also doesn't like the body looseness.
He also has an eye for detail and found a run in batman's legging.
Without sharing my thoughts vocally, he agrees as I do; Two-Face is the clear winner in this wave.

Not to tangent off my original post too far; my spending habits are going to change.
Of the next wave, Flash, Capt Cold and Cheetah are on my wish list. Sorry, no WW fo' me.
The next wave...none really appeal to me. Shazam is cool, but I really might just have to see this fig in my hand before buying.

Drop the price at least $8 per fig and I bet 99% of the knit picking mentioned on this site disappears.

The honest value to our concerns will be best measured by how long this line lasts. By every account, we're suppose to get three waves a year for at least a couple of more years. If this happens, then the line met with Mattel's expectations and these concerns, while relevant to us, did little to hurt their bottom line. If the line ends prior to this, then we know these issues held water and Mattel chose to end the line before their high end pricing no longer made up for poor sales.

He said the flimsy cards and weird figure positions gave him the idea these were dollar store knock-offs.

He also told me he spent 10 minutes trying to find a card that wasn't "worn out"

In the end his assessment was "I can't believe DC would give the ok to make junk like this" ... He actually used a different word instead of junk.

    Cool story Mike!

I can remember holding two Sinestro's in my hand at TRU as that was all there was left on the pegs at the time. One of the first things that I noticed was the flimsy cards. I was holding one in my hands and in almost bent in half without any help from me at all.

For a little while I had actually thought about buying them still. I carried them around with me a bit for fear of loss like most collectors would probably do. Then before I left I put them back as I just could not bring myself to support the cause.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy seeing new figures like the majority of us here. I feel though if I bought these at full retail price I woud be pretty much agreeing with Mattel that there product is inferior. Therefore, The next time these come out the stores would be asking even more for a lesser product.

I will just wait it out and pick them up on discount when they blow them out eventually. I usually am not like that. Usually when I see something I want I buy it no questions asked. IF I really truly wanted the complete set of these I would have already had them when they first came out. I just am not feeling these all that well with the bad bodies, flimsy cards and crumbling emblems.

In the mean time I still ended up with a set of them as someone traded them to me. Chances are because they were not pleased with them and know they are crap and they did not want them either. nuff said.

Your nephew's opinion would hold more weight if we knew his age...I have no doubt teens and twenty-somethings will not feel the same vibe from these figures as 35-40 year-olds who actually know what they're supposed to be, nor young children who are still innocent and impressionable. I showed series one to my friend's son who is five, and he went absolutely bonkers over them.

Also, the online reviews I've seen among collectors have been very favorable.

Got to Toys R' Us this morning when they opened, still nothing.

Then I went over to Newberry Comics and they had Batman & Twoface...for $29.99! I looked carefully at the Figures...and the Seam on Batman's right Leg was coming un-stiched.

I got a case yesterday from Entertainment Earth. Me and the boy are splitting it. He's helping me in the yard to earn the dough to pay for these. And don't think I'm a stingy dad, he gets stuff all the time. I thought this would be a good motivator to work, and a good life lesson.

Anyway, all of my packages were fine, but one Aquaman had a cracked bubble. I didn't really care as I was opening him. Other than that, the packages were fine.

Of the four I opened, the bodies were all wonky, except for Two-Face. He was pretty sturdy. Aquaman was the worst. He's flopping around like one of his finny friends.

As for looks, I really like them all. I was pleasantly surprised by the deep blue on Batman. Makes him look even more Super Friend-ly. Love the way the cowl works. Best removable cowl yet on a Batman figure, I think. I'm very concerned by the posts on his emblem though. I know I'll be nervously watching it from now on. And no body swapping like I planned to.

Two-Face...wow. This is a GREAT Megoesque figure. I could see Mego making him in a "lost" DC wave after 1976. He's got the look of the later Marvel figures like Thor, Conan, and the FF. That harder look. Homerun all the way. He wasn't supposed to come with coin, was he? I know initially when carded pics were first released, some thought he had the coin. Mine didn't come with one.

Aquaman looks great too. With his scales and better belt, he kind of makes the Mego Aquaman look like a bootleg now. I hate to say it, but it's true. I like this his head seems to be based off the old one, with improvements.

Black Manta is one cool figure. I have no complaints. Great look, well done in Mego form.

I hate that I will have to warn my son about Batman's emblem. He took his Green Lantern's suit off and on and I don't think he had any emblem trouble. Not sure what they did different this time out.

    Chris

The yellow card superman...yea, that card is beat to hell. SUre wasn't careful when mattel packed em.
Black manta is pretty cool in person.
Great to hear that you received your order and now are the proud owner of wave 2.

You know what they say.... Wish in one hand and sheet in the other and see which hand gets fuller quicker.
