Count me in as VERY excited about Mattel's character choices. I'm much, much more interested in seeing characters that were never made by Mego as opposed to new versions of Megos I already have.

    Keep it up, Mattel!

Plus you have to consider the market saturation of a villain like the Joker after the Dark Knight movie. I mean does anyone truly need another Joker in his/her collection when their STILL warming peg boards? NOT! It's simply time to start mining the other characters. And remember... these are intended to stand next to the Mego line up. So common reasoning would suggest some new blood is needed to make that final family picture look truly unique.
I think a lot of people, having "cut their teeth" on Megos, look to this Retro-Action line (for right or wrong) as giving them the perfect, quintessential "Mego" versions of the figures they had and didn't have as children. So, it doesn't make much difference to them (me, included) if they already have 35 Joker figures... they're still waiting for the perfect MEGO Joker figure... or Riddler... or Two-Face, or whatever. So, the fact that the characters have been done to death really makes no difference... as long as a "Mego" version of the character hasn't been done to death.

I, for one, will be very disappointed if the line ends before we get slightly updated, new versions of all the Mego characters I loved as a kid. Personally, I can't wait to have a shelf full of Retro-Action Bat-characters. I just hope all the B-listers don't weigh down and end the line before that happens.

...and as a side note, it's more disappointing to me that Mattel is investing resources in a bunch of modern GL characters (so soon) than what characters they've selected for Waves 3 and 4. I wish there were some Bat-characters sprinkled in there but, overall, I'm looking forward to characters like Flash, Shazam, Martian Manhunter, and Darkseid.

Why is it so tragic, then, that Martian Manhunter shows up before Robin? That is what this is boiling down to.

Let's consider what IS showing up. Flash: No one seems to be disagreeing. Wonder Woman: Nothing wrong with that choice. Shazam!: Great choice.

Now, we have the natural pairing of Hero/Villain. That means Captain Cold, Cheetah, and Black Adam are following suit. Reasonable choices for Villians, given the Hero produced.

With that in mind, the disappointment seems to be focused on Martian Manhunter and Darkseid. That is two of eight figures. Neither were made by Mego, but both are relevant to comics and have been in recent DC Animated stuff.

While these might be out of the order expected, are they really bad choices?

I think most of us are very excited at the potential for many characters being made that Mego didn't make. I love having a Lex Luthor and Green Lantern on the shelf right now. With that being said, I don't want lesser-known characters AT THE EXPENSE of more mainstream characters... which is what may happen if the first few waves satiate the nostalgia factor going, currently, and the line has to survive mostly on character releases that will sell well... which may not be there to carry the line if there are too many b-listers.

This may be because Mattel knows that everyone will be expecting Robin sooner or later. After all what is Batman without Robin? This is their way of changing things up and keeping us guessing.

I totally agree. I see only about half of these that I know and I will get, mostly SF related or BM related. By knowing that anymore Batman related figures won't show up until a minimum of wave 5 will be bad and I hope the line doesn't tank before they make Robin.

I'll definitely order Waves 3 and 4, but I'm not looking forward to the GL Exclusives at MattyCollector. I'd love to get 'em, but from all the horror stories I've heard about that website...

Well, I'll try to get 'em anyway come February.

Kudos and congrats to everyone involved in making these figures! Well done!

I couldn't agree more. Padding a line with B-listers is a scary tactic on a line that isn't one of Mattel's top-dollar lines and probably will never be considering the nature of the line and the target audience. It's certainly a "fan line" and could be dropped quickly if it stops paying for itself.

It's a bit unnerving to see the first chance for a Robin, Joker, or Batgirl at least a year away (roughly). In fact, it's killed a great deal of interest I had in this line knowing we won't see any more Batfamily characters for such a huge span of time. I agree

Releasing too much junk will drive people away from the line.

Blue Chip Heroes is what sells them to the masses (which is where the real money is at)

    Look at wave 1

    Superman is the best seller
