When going to TRU and seeing the Retro Heroes moving and not all that expensive Diamond collector targeted crap, I'd say its a success. And I'm sure if the product is moving, its a success in the store's eyes. too.

I know you would love this line to fail, so you can finally say "I told you so" Rich, but man, give it a rest already. A profit is a profit and given today's market (say what you want, but we haven't seen the end of the crisis yet) I'm sure Mattel will take whatever they can get.
And Don is right, this probably was a test run. Nevertheless, it was a succesful test run.

    >low run results in low profits

True; but it is profit. I'm thinking they wanted to test the waters. SO if the first wave sold well they'll up production numbers for the next. The only problem is: will they be popular enough to SUSTAIN sales. The first wave could have sold on hype alone. The second will sell on how much people liked the first. If Mattel ups production but can't sell the NEW numbers, they might consider the line a failure.

    I bought the set.

I always wanted a WGSH Green Lantern, even after my love for Hal Jordan died in Emerald Twilight.

I thought I had that avenue covered when Hasbro did their 9" Figures, but no. It was close, but it wasn't close enough.

I now have the perfect 8" Green Lantern. Okay, not PERFECT, there's a few quality issues with the body, but it's still the BEST 8" GL aside from a custom.

and I don't like the Silver Age GL enough to fork out for a custom. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't hate Hal (no matter what you may have read from me on other sites). I love Hal Jordan. As Parallax.

but to me, he can never be a hero again. I liked him Pre-Parallax, and I like him AS Parallax, but Post-Parallax, I just don't care anymore.

but yeah, I couldn't resist. Bring on wave 2.

my toys r us got at least 6 cases, and they are all gone now, even the last lone Sinestro is gone!!! I saw a lady asking for them too for her son, and the employee said they come in, and hours later case loads are gone. I asked if her sons were collectors, she said they were playing with them at ages 5 and 7 and that she does not mind paying 20 a pop because the quality is there, and so is the imagination! GO MOM!!!! But she said her sons keep asking for Hulk, Spider-Man and Iron man, she asked if those were available, and I smiled and replied "Not Yet....." She remembered having Megos in the house as a kid, and they had both DC and Marvel characters. I told her Just DC for now, but if these keep selling like this, Marvel will have to make at least similar scale figures to compete. It also bugged her that Batman must be the hot seller because she could not find him or Green Arrrow. (I filled her in on both) I guess everyone here on Long Island had megos seeing as they were EVERYWHERE here when we were kids, hell, the greeting card stores, and supermarkets even had them. And for Moms to remember them fondly It means they were either something really special, or we Long Island kids were just fortunate to have the company and rabid sales reps here in our backyard. Mattel isn't here on the Island, but DOC is, guess the more things change the more they stay the same! Adults seem to be willing to share and converse with complete strangers about the new "Megos" so I would stamp this line a bona-fide sucsess!

I love them Doc, but more importantly my two sons love them!

Why just the other day Superman saved Thomas the train from falling off his tracks, then headed back to the Hall of Justice (which is actually just an air mattress with pillows staked up as walls)

Well I tried my TRU store and they were sold out, the guy there said he is getting calls on them everyday. I drove 120 miles away on business and ran into a TRU and they had all of them. So I bought one of each. This TRU was in a small town, so people might have to go out to the sticks to find the new figures. I have Superman sitting on my dash in the Hummer and my friend told me today,"Hey these are like the Super Heroes I had as a kid!!!" I told him go to TRU to find em. So now he is wanting them. There are still people out there that want these new figures after seeing them that never knew about any of this new Mego stuff. I say its a big success.

I don't think they're stocking enough to over fill the pegs. At best I'm seeing 2 cases per store and only one, at some, seems to be possible from some of the posts. I think the only thing slowing it down right now is the issues they're seeing with the bodies and the bubble goo.

Even clearance doesn't mean it won't proceed. I bought a few of the JLU figures from the early runs on clearance and those went on for a while. As long as they see certain characters disappearing they'll just adjust thinking on character selection. At least for the short term.

What the...? There's finally a second Mego collector here in Wichita? About friggin' time! Welcome to the lonely world of Mego Collecting in the Great Plains. By my count, you're number 7.

I'm assuming you're the guy who beat me to the punch on the first shipment of Retros at TRU, so congrats.

    $200,000 - $30,000 = profit $170,000

    $18,000,000 - $6,000,000 still gets you a profit of $12,000,000.

If TRU only has 50 percent sell thru, its doubtful they would keep stocking it. And the way they run the place a mark down would take a year and two more waves wouldn't get to the stores because the old ones are still filling the pegs.

There was a full set at TRU on Tuesday. As of yesterday both Lanterns were gone and one Supes (I bought one of the Lanterns).

Looking online you can still find the first wave out there. Especially if you are interested in getting the entire wave. I checked BBTS this morning and the only individual figures sold out are GA (no surprise) and Superman. Nice to see Superman getting some love.
