We all seem to be thinking the same thing. I wouldn't have minded Burton's flick if they named it something else. I think the shooting title was: The Visitor. Like you guys I'd rather see a new story that works w/the original series.

Do you think the Emce license expired?

I was very saddened when the good Doc said the Emce Apes were history. I would have bought all the figures made and did buy multiple gorillas for a platoon, maybe someday fate will smile on and they will return.

Anybody heard any more on the new film?
Last I heard it was called "Caesar" and was pretty much rehashing the old movie series, except in chronological order this time. I like that approach, but I'm afraid it will be turned into something awful. Apparently nobody wants to direct it, which isnt a good sign.
With the new movie "possibly" in the works this could be a potential goldmine but all of the stars need to fall in line.
I really hope they keep it far far away from Tim Burton. His ape movie was horrible!

This is a case of hindsight 20/20 but if you acquired the license for Beneath POTA you would have all of the main characters and Ursus. The second thing would be to make screen accurate figures.

With the new movie "possibly" in the works this could be a potential goldmine but all of the stars need to fall in line.

    I agree.

This line needed to hit the ground running. It couldn't afford to build up slowly.

It sounds like Lonnie is talking about folks purchasing the EMCE apes as openers or for customs, not comparing them to MOC examples of the Mego counterparts.

My local comic shop had the EMCEs at retail of $18.99 when they were released. Comparing that to the $15 or so you could get (or might pay for - whichever side of the coin you are on) for a clean loose Cornelius and I would agree with Lonnie.

I'm glad that line is going to continue.
And original Ape cheaper then a repro?.Look on Evilbay.Theres a crazy guy selling a carded Zaius for $700.00 and a carded helmet head Ursus for$853.00.These should only go for$200-$250 tops for a C-9+,ect.Theres a few sites right now selling vintage carded apes from the $200.00 dollar range,C-9+.Thats still alot of cabbage for a toy, even vintage.Maybe you mean a loose figure thats all jacked up for $5.00 and can be restored, that I understand.Oh well happy hunting.

Just wondering about the Trek as a dead franchise line. What makes you say that? The EMCE line continues to flourish and the Trek fan base goes far beyond the Mego collecting community. Moreover, from some brief research, the new Trek movie made $385,494,555 world-wide. Seems like the franchise still has strong support.
That quote might be a little dated,as what brought Trek back from the dead was the recent film,up until a year or so ago,Trek toys, ect. were not moving, just like Star Wars.My nephew and I sell(part time fun job) at the Shrine Auditoruim in Los Angeles and at Comic-Con in San Diego, not to mention the Las Vegas Trek show,we were DUMPING figures at $60.00 for carded Megos and $5.00 for everything else.Maybe a glut of toys is what kills a line, maybe not the show,but.......Anywho.

The licensing snafu is a shame, because "new" figs mixed with the classic Mego POTAs might have boosted the line: Civilian apes, proper astronauts, mutants, Nova.
