I'm sure that if we support their 8" offerings they will eventually get into Marvel figures... -
I just called FTC today and asked iif any chance of Marvel Megos and the guy said "possibly, yes"!
I know FTC has pursued the Marvel license its just up to Disney now. What a Christmas and New Year gift that would be!Leave a comment:

I'd like to say yeah and get on board but I'd rather take a wait and see approach first. I want to see how the rest of the DC stuff does first. Plus Tarzan and Conan. I don't want to see them get in over their head and have it all collapse.Leave a comment:

I don't think Doc would have talked to Hasbro. Hasbro had a license to make toys, but Marvel holds the license.Leave a comment:

Could Doc have been talking about Hasbro? I dont think Hasbro is interested in the 8 inch mego-like market at all after lack of sales from past efforts.I think FTC would have to show that the line has serious legs, and mass appeal, before Marvel would dip their toe back into the 8" format. I think Doc has said on a number of occasions that Marvel said no way when they were approached with the idea in the recent past, that they did this already with Famous Covers, etc. Famous Covers was, in their minds, a flop (and yes, it was SUPPOSED to be 8" scale).
But who knows, maybe FTC will just run mad with this stuff and Marvel will reconsider.Leave a comment:

I see where you're coming from but I have to wonder... if FTC agrees to maintain quality control and adhere to style guides etc — and they are willing to pay Marvel for the license and give them royalties from each piece sold... then what would Marvel have to complain about?I think FTC would have to show that the line has serious legs, and mass appeal, before Marvel would dip their toe back into the 8" format. I think Doc has said on a number of occasions that Marvel said no way when they were approached with the idea in the recent past, that they did this already with Famous Covers, etc. Famous Covers was, in their minds, a flop (and yes, it was SUPPOSED to be 8" scale).

It's not as if Marvel has to share in the production costs or advertising etc. It's not as if "8-inch, Mego-style cloth action figures" compete against other toys... they are unique from any other figure on the market.
I really don't understand the logic of Marvel flat-out saying "no" when they really have nothing to lose, only to gain via a hefty licensing fee and future revenue. Granted, the revenue may not be gigantic but again, I see no downside for them as long as the quality is there and their characters are being represented properly — and they are not competing with other similar toys.
Am I missing something here?Last edited by Astronut; Dec 18, '13, 12:57 PM.Leave a comment:
