Probably my all-time favorite custom figure-
TRICK OR TREAT! Something I've wanted to do since last October....an amalgamation of a Mego Batman with the Classic (?) Ben Cooper Batman costume. Yes, Ben Cooper gets a lot of flack for getting the costume WRONG so I wanted to see how a Mego would look in it. :smiley1: The box also is a merging of the ideas of the

I don't have any pics of my only Ben Cooper costume, (The Bionic Woman). I remember being torn that year on whether to be that or Electra Woman. But what I've seen of the worst of Ben Cooper was Jaws and Rubik's Cube. Oh, and I've dressed my American Girl (and boy) style 18 inch dolls in homemade Ben Cooper splendor over the last few years, so here you go, guys:Leave a comment:

Hey HardyGirl, that's a really cool idea! I think I saw a Batman Cooper mego custom once, but it never struck me that you could make groups of them like custom Trick Or Treater dolls! Cool!Leave a comment:

Two more bits of vintage Ben Cooper nostalgia. The first is, without a doubt, my favorite Halloween costume I ever wore. It's the classic Ben Cooper pirate mask, but my mother came up with the rest of it. She was one of those mothers who always wanted to make the costumes herself, while I fervently wanted the pre-made, licensed stuff that we all love. We were often at loggerheads over this, but that Halloween we found a happy medium. I got my mask and sword, and she got to fiddle with the rest of it. The real genius of the costume is the Pittsburgh Pirates t-shirt. They had just won the 1979 World Series a couple of weeks before, so it seemed like a nice touch, although I'm not sure a real pirate would be wearing that...
The second shot is circa 1981. I still remember my mother suggesting that I should go as Luke, since I had brown hair, but I wouldn't budge. I guess I just couldn't stomach the idea of dressing up as Tom Wopat...

Ah, one of my favorite topics... It seems that a lot of us have this in common, so here are my contributions to the Ben Cooper Batman sweepstakes, circa 1976. Also, dig my friend Jessica's Collegeville "Barbie Doll" costume:

I had the deluxe Ben Cooper Batman playsuit, it was twill with a vinyl cape. I wore it out as it grew too small--we replaced the mask once with a BC rack mask, and my grandmother replaced the cape with a much nice home-sewn one.
My best memory of it was pulling a group of neighbor-kids together and staging what we thought was a "Batman episode." It was mostly just running around and play-fighting, but Mom made refreshments and in retrospect it seems right out of Our Gang.Leave a comment:

I really liked the mask in the Spider-Man costume. It's very Ditko, and now we know why, because it was one of the first pieces of Spidey merchandise. The fuzzy tarantula and yellow colors on the smock, not so much.

I think that was my brother's generic monster/Frankenstein. He thought he was "too old" for a Ben Cooper costume.
The one on the mask is the bit that bothered me as a kid. Still was the best costume for me, by far.Leave a comment:

As much as I love Ben Cooper's Batman suit (I still have my childhood playsuit), the name on the chest and the bat-symbol bugged me, even as a 3 year old.
