I bought Famous Covers Aunt May at a Factory 2 U in Texas for $8. I put her on a smaller body I got at a second hand store and now she looks like a little old lady. She looks pretty terrifying, but she's one of my favorite customs.

Did they use the muscle chest for him or a spiderman chest. My only real gripe is the big chest.

I cut mine up long ago making a Tony Stark repairing his armor Aurora Custom

My Problem with Thor is his hair is too yellow. And I have bever understood how exactlly his boots are suppossed to be colored. Still only FC with an open hand. Best Thor is the Avengers series Thor.

    Hmmmm....

I kinda think they were a near-miss. A lot of 'em were really good: Thor is probably the best representation of the character ever.... some of 'em, not so much. I was disappointed they weren't Mego scale. I never really outgrew my Megos, and was customizing when they came out, and they didn't fit in so good with the rest of my figures. I only have one famous covers figure and that is Thor (shocking). He is a great figure and the first Thor figure that I bought.

You know they could have just as easily gone for one of the nineties armors, or more likely, the animated series look.

That Aunt May is creepy as hell ! She looks like she's having a stroke in the box, and with that face , Uncle Ben probably jumped in front of that bullet so he didn't have to go home to her.
I took the Twisted Toyfair approach and used Granny Walton.

Hey neighbor. I have an Ironman and Spiderman down here in Janesville. I believe I sacrificed the Ironman vinyl head inside the helmet for a Tony Stark Mego custom but if you want them, they are yours.

For the most part thought, Famous Covers did respark my Mego interest and gave us dozens of wish-list figures beyond the Mego line-up. Who would have ever thought we'd get Mego-esque Vision or Scarlet Witch for example. or Dark Phoenix? or even Hawkeye!

With the benefit of hindsight, there are some head-scratchers... Carnage, but no Venom. (understandable given the huge Carnage cross-promotion at the time in toys, video games and comics, but Venom's absence is notable).

For the most part, you have to give credit to Toy Biz for going with mostly classic choices like Electro or Red Skull. With the exception of X-Men like Mr Sinister, Psylocke and Gambit, we could have just as easily had a line-up filled with the trendier nineties figures like Cable, Danny Ketch Ghost Rider, Punisher, War Machine etc. instead of Thor or Nightcrawler.

To be fair to Toy Biz, Jessica Drew had been inactive for about a decade and a half at that point and the Secret Wars Spiderwoman was still fairly prominant in the nineties thanks to West Coast Avengers/Force Works and the Iron Man animated series and action figures.

You can see why they did Mr Fantastic and Invisible Woman first from a cost stand-point... they used the standard bodies. I can only imagine the tooling costs for the Thing given his rocky hide if they wanted to do it right. Although I guess they could have just painted the rocky pattern on a Hulk body, but I don't think it would have looked right. I'm not sure how they would have handled the Torch's flame look without an original sculpted body as well. They flame and rocky body suit might have worked for the seventies, but Nineties kids and collector's were used to a bit more given how high MacFarlane was setting the bar. I guess they could have simply scaled up one of the Toy Biz 6" FF figures, but look how crappy the 10" line looked!

Yes indeed. When I was hot collecting Famous Covers I did snag one of those Aunt Mays.
I later converted her to "Mego size" and broke her down to fit a smaller body when Transferred the majority of my Famous Covers over to Mego and sold the rest.
The head is so horrible. She looks like an evil witch. Thought about using it for an Agatha Harnkness custom. Even replaced it with a Alice Brady head but changed it back......

I think you nailed it! The question isn't "why her", but rather "why not ANYONE else?" Mary Jane Watson or Gwen Stacy? The black&White Spider-woman didn't make that much sense to me either. I mean, how about a Jessica Drew Spider-woman if you HAVE to make a spider-woman or maybe a Black Cat if you want to run that black&white theme.

I wonder why they chose to make the two LEAST visually interesting Fantastic Four members. The Thing and the Human Torch would have looked sweet. If you liked the Hulk, I'm sure the Thing would be cool. I think anyone who does FC customs does the "standard" Daredevil to Torch conversion.

I really liked FC's and they solved a lot of problems that I had with megos.

If I remember right FC AUNT MAY was one of the few 9 to 8 inch converts
that looked half-decent. I still wouldn't mind adding 1 of those to my
    custom Mego collection.
