When you watch "Christmas Eve on Sesame Street", David is obviously trying to hook up with Maria. Which is how I remember their relationship as the "young kids" on the block. So I often wondered, where exactly or when exactly did David drop the ball and allow Luis (freakin' Luis!) to swoop in and steal Maria's heart? The playa got played!

Yeah I noticed that too! Didn't some of the actors marry in real life?

Oh, and for the record, I don't HATE Elmo. I can't, since my little girl adores him. My son likes/liked him too, but not this much.

I have to read "Another Monster at the End of This Book" as both Grover AND Elmo. Talk about messing your throat up!

My one year old LOVES Sesame Street. My wife brought home a "Christmas Eve on Seasame Street" DVD from her libarary over Christmas break. I popped it in, expecting to find Elmo (since he was on the case), but instead found a special from the late 70s/early 80s! It was pretty much Seasame Street as I remember it, although it had segments of the muppet characters on ice with skaters in costumes (like Sesame Street On Ice, I'd imagine). Mr. Hooper was on it!

That's the one I remember as a kid and we have the VHS in our house...it's a Christmas classic. Of course we also have the "modern day" Elmo Saves Christmas, which isn't too bad, all things considering.

I think I have that book, Hue. I have a stack of old SS books. I also have that Jack Davis calendar Brian posted. Great stuff.

I always say I'm going to start a vintage SESAME STREET collection but other
than the finger puppets and a few hand puppets, I haven't started in yet.

(It really would've helped quench my desire if that SS action figure line
would've debuted a few years ago)

Anyways...hope to see more of that great vintage SS artwork once your site
gets off the ground.

The recent "artwork" posts in this thread reminded me of a big hardcover
SESAME STREET "ABC" book---I had as a kid.

I'd sure like a copy of that again.

I love this funky era of Sesame Street. The graphics are hand drawn and have a lot of character. Nowadays everything is very slick and baby-fied.

A lot of the early art was done by Jack Davis of Mad Magazine fame. This is from the Topper merchandise.

I like to think that Big Bird has just a bit more intelligence than Elmo. Did I mention how much I hate Elmo?

I guess you could say "I'm not too fond of Big Bird".

I liked SO many Muppets...but GEEZ...Big Bird!

If I'm not mistaken, that's pretty much Elmo's "hook" too.

Could you imagine having an episode where they were stranded somewhere together?

It would be like a "G"-rated version of the movie DUMB AND DUMBER.

I don't think I could handle it.....although imagining the odd conversations
between the two...it seems like it'd be SO bizarre it might actually
work in their favor.

Big Bird? No offense guys, but he's just a taller yellow Elmo with a deeper voice and feathers. I never really got into him.
As far as I'm concerned Snuffleupagus carried the guy...um...bird.

I found the guy I was looking for..."Beautiful Day Monster":

COOKIE MONSTER is my favorite.

I can identify with his addictive and gluttonous personality...plus I think
he's charming in his own way.

Kermit and Grover were tied for me with Ernie and Bert as the "ultimate duo"
(people forget how many skits they had together...Cookie was a good foil
for Kermit as well)

and Grover was a big hit with me cause of that "Monster At The End
Of This Book" book and that "Everything...Museum" book I had.

Oscar and The Count ALWAYS held my attention when they were on.

Honorable Mention: FRAZZLE---pound for pound pretty cool and never
spoke.
Herry---another cool monster if only visually.
Guy Smiley and Don Music---both interesting in their own way
and VERY simillar looking

I loved watching this show growing up,Oscar the Grouch,The Cookie Monster and Grover were my favourite characters on the street,The Count was alot of fun too.

Actually the Grover design was there 1st season, but he was green and un-named appearing in just bit parts Anyone else remember Oscar the Grouch being orange at first, too?

Hot first hand, I show Sesame Street later on PBS. However I do own the Sesame Street Old School Vol 1 that has the very first episode with the orange Oscar. I would like to find the outtake footage of actor that does Big Bird, who in full costume told an unrully little school kid during taping, seat down, you little B*st**d. Scared the kid and got Big Bird in trouble. It's no worse then the bloopers they released on the Electric Company Dvds, Bill Cosby has a potty mouth.
