I'd really want to know what was inside before deciding, but I'd definitely want to open it, and would have to be convinced to leave it as-is based upon specific contents. Of course, then I'd worry about storing it properly...
How many Mego collectors will there be in 40 years? Will anyone even care? Probably not, so why keep it sealed?
Thomas I'm shocked!!
Honestly though I like to think that our hobby is still in it's infancy, and that collectors will continue to chase these items for years and decades to come. Many of the most passionate collectors of cast iron banks weren't alive when their toys were made, I think it will be the same with our stuff.
I think some of you long-time collectors might be too close to the centre to see how big this hobby could (and probably has already) become. I've only actively sought Mego's off and on for ten years now and I'm still just getting started. The combination of fun and accurate sculpts, accessories, great box & card art, well known and loved characters and a large secondary market supply with low entry points makes me think that we have only just begun.
You only have to show Benjamin's book to someone who has never seen Mego's before to see that these toys are special, and will continue to attract collector's attention for a long time.
Back on topic though I should add that I would open a common sealed case of boxed AJ's or Klingons, but something as iconic and rare as the last sealed assortment of WGSH I would definitely keep sealed. High end items like that are entrusted to us as custodians for future generations of collectors, they are not ours to do with whatever we please
Take it to a small airport and ask the security guys if you can run it through the scanner and see which figures are inside if you must know, just don't take something that is unique and make it ordinary!
There are plenty of carded and boxed figures and a few shipping cases, but how many sealed cases?
A mind-blowing treasure now, but imagine in 20 or 40 years! It would be the centrepiece of the Smithsonian MEGO retrospective. You could torment MEGO collectors for years to come :-)
You can always open it down the track, but you can't un-open it.
I'd totally open it. Totally 100% open complete. And then I'd be amazed at the contents, scream like a madman, run around tearing my clothes off of my fat body, and then open all of them except for 2. So AC+S(R-C(FB))+O-2 is the proper mathematically correct term I guess. Unless you factor in the police that would arrive. That's a different equation.
You couldn't stop me from opening it. Oddly though, unless the figures were ultra, ultra rare, I doubt I would remove them from the case. I don't know what that says about me, but there it is.
Geraldo would be the last person I'd let near any collectible ... did any of you see what he did to the one guy's un-ripped Woodstock ticket??? After years of looking some guy found one paid top dollar and Geraldo used it on one of his shows and right on camera accidentally ripped it in half.
What I would do with a un opened case is keep it sealed if I could tell it had a bunch of Bats Robins supermans spidermans ... but if it had super rare stuff I would get a super cool display case made and display all of them with the box. If I couldn't find out what was in it I would open it and keep them all together

I'd open them and sell them to you guys who care and respect them as a great collectible at a discount rate of course. I really wouldn't like to have a full shipping box of anything , but i do have many star was shipping boxes( newer figures)
