Anecdotally, I've seen a lot of Lionel mark down stickers on ebay items. I wonder if they had a habit of over-ordering or perhaps they just had bad timing. Lionel's Kiddie City store was one of the places I used to go as a kid and I remember they always had a pretty good selectionof Megos. I bought my Conan and Fantastic Four there and I'm pretty sure my Ma got my CAH playsets there. Maybe those big red-orange stickers have just lasted longer on the packages.

I only saw the other 3 KISS dolls on shelves briefly, but I remember Paul being a total shelf warmer. I picked up my Paul at Zellers around 1980, two years after the figures first came out, on clearance for $5.00 (half price, but not as good a price as a mere buck!). There were quite a few left too (but most of the boxes were pretty trashed). I remember Gene, Ace and Peter coming and going quite quickly though, they didn't hang around in stores too long.

I'd have definitely been all over a discounted Acroyear II, man. Alot of those Micronauts were kinda hard to come by around here it seemed, and the only discounted figures that I recall seeing much were Time Travelers.

I remember finding a Paul Stanley on clearance as a kid, but I passed him up for a 12" C3PO on clearance. A purchase I regretted for a lot of years.



Micronauts, Acroyear II. Unfortunately someone tore off the clearance price.

Oh I understand that completely I'm in that business, once licenses expire, it's gotta go or be destroyed. I just imagined that stuff like KISS didn't hang around on shelves long. I only saw those dolls for a brief period, then never again.

If I had seen KISS for a buck, I'd have snatched them up, although my dad might have burned them.

Well I sadly no longer have my original boxes but my Paul Stanley and Peter Criss dolls were purchased at an American Sales store around 1980 for $2.00 each. I remember very clearly walking in there one summer afternoon looking for the newest Star Wars ESB figures, and being surprised to see a metal bin filled with KISS figures at such low prices. I can recall seeing them on shelves at blowout prices in other places after that too, as late as 1981.

So I always thought the contrary, that they didn't really fly off of shelves and weren't as successful after all? Maybe it was regional, because I know that Peter Criss was overly abundant here in the Chicagoland area, and yet I've seen many collectors say that he was the hardest to get! For me it was that damned Ace figure!

I have a Fist Fighting Joker that was marked down from $5.44 to $2.44...JC Penny price sticker, original price is crossed out and the new one is written over it....I don't really remember seeing a lot of Fist Fighters so that kind of surprises me that they were marked down but I guess that shouldnt be a surprise since that line didn't take off...never mind.
