Love the whole show. The B/W episodes are a bit more pulp, but not overly violent or anything. Some of the FX are pretty bad, but the stories are generally pretty engaging throughout. It's all very wholesome. -
when you watch THINK: EARTH-TWO, even though it is the Daily Planet and NOT the Daily STAR! And it is Perry White and NOT George Taylor!
I just love that everyone wore those SUITS day to day. I wonder did people REALLY Dress like that in everyday real life???
WOuld like to wear a suit like that for Halloween!Leave a comment:

I think that, as I age, probably like many of you, I find the urge to go back to simpler times, and eras even before my time. I love in Superman the Movie when Clark says "Swell" and during the interview when Superman says "I'm sorry, I beg your pardon?"
Just little phrases like that... I try to use them in my social and professional life. (I'm working on "How do you do?" when I meet someone new.)
A small, charming series like this holds appeal for me in that regard.Leave a comment:

I have many fond memories of this show, which I do have on bootleg DVD. When I was little, and my older brother would watch me, we'd make cinnamon toast and watch George as Superman. When I bought him the same bootleg series, I went to Seattle, and made cinnamon toast for the family and we all watched together.Leave a comment:

I have the entire series on DVD, the early B&W episodes I think are better story lines, plus I liked Phyllis Coats
portrayal as Lois Lane and thought she was strangely attractive.
The early episodes also had a death scene of a mobster and his girlfriend on a cliff, plus episodes with Ghosts, Wolves
and Robots and Superman and the Mole Men two part movie, is very enjoyable.
The later color episodes were sort of 50/50 as far as scripts, like someone already said, more aimed at kids but still
enjoyable, you will like some more than others.
The only thing missing from the series is Lex Luthor who was used in the serials in the 40's, I always thought it strange
his character never appeared in any episodes.Leave a comment:

Thanks for the YouTube, Mikey. I'll give it a look.
If not, I still haven't seen Shazam! since childhood, so...Leave a comment:

Stamp Day For Superman is in public domain, so it's easy to track down and watch for free on the internet.
It's not 100% like a Superman episode because it's basically a half hour PSA commercial geared toward kids, but it very much does show why George Reeves is so likable as Superman.
Here it is from youtube.

It's a fun show. Watched as a kid in reruns with my Mom, who loved it as a child. Likable cast and fun stories. The weakness of the show by modern standard is it didn't always have the greatest villains and George was maybe not always in the most heroic shape.Leave a comment:

Yeah, I love Television that isn't sequential. It's fun being able to pick any episode of Star Trek or Batman to enjoy.Leave a comment:

The great thing is that they do not need to be watched in order. The only one that has chronological relevance is episode 1 season 1 "Superman on Earth" - It would be a great one to watch first, but is not necessary.
The only one that is not half an hour is Superman and the Mole men. It can be viewed as a 2 parter (The Unkown People) totaling 44 mins. of content (1 hour with comercials) - Or better as a feature film that is 61 mins long and served as the pilot for the series. There are some minor inconsistencies with the series.
The B&W episodes are generally thought to be higher quality and are sort of Crime Noir.
The Color episodes are a little more fun and -well in color.
Most episodes are great -but there are some duds. So if you start with a dud, give it a chance.
Just watched 5 minutes to doom B&W. It is very good.
All that Glitters is the final episode, and I love it!Last edited by Brue; Dec 30, '18, 6:18 PM.Leave a comment:

^ Interesting. Could be the color ones are more for me. It may be awhile though. Thanks to Plaid Stallions, I've got the complete series of UFO and Star Maidens to binge on.Leave a comment:

There's basically 2 styles of George Reeves Supermans
B&W episodes -- gritty and violent --- almost Batmanny
Color episodes -- fun and geared more toward children
Both are GREAT but pick the ones above that more suit your tasteLeave a comment:
