He's very good, Mikey. It's also wonderful to see Carol Anne Ford and William Russell still at it.

As for Jodi...I love this change. I hope she does well and I hope the writing improves. I felt part of the problems with Capaldi's seasons was the writing.

Compared to this newer guy I think Richard Hurndall was right on the money.

For best audio Hartnell, check out this guy ... (FF to 1:20)

What about the Tenth Doctor and Rose? That was Russell T. And then before that there's the Eighth Doctor movie.

They got Reece Shearsmith to portray him briefly in the docu-drama "An Adventure in Space and Time" alongside David Bradley... but that's about it, as far as I know.

Thank you, Bruce. I haven't see Bradley's interpretation, but he sure looks the part.

Yeah, William Hartnell was ill during the production of The Three Doctors. The original script featured him a lot more, but it was eventually revised to just a few brief appearances because of his poor health at the time.

In The Five Doctors, he was played by Richard Hurndall who portrayed him in a more sprightly way.

Hmmm. I barely recall some Hartnell episodes I saw while in college (bee people I think?), but he seemed sort of wry and avuncular. I don't recall his characterization in The Three Doctors at all except as a cameo. Wasn't he ill? Seems a shame to base new portrayals on that.

The only problem I have with the new guy playing Hartnell is he seems to be playing Hartnell from the Three Doctors.

Same thing in Adventures of Space and Time.

Hartnell's Doctor was a relatively spry and chipper guy with a great wit.

This new guy seems to make Hartnell look like he's totally out of it.

    Anybody else notice this ?

THIS. It's just the same old, same old, but this time with a woman in the lead. Plenty of times I've seen/heard how the new person playing the Doctor is gonna be lousy, can't hold a candle to the previous one, etc. Then by the end of the three year or so run, most folks are saying "Wow! He/she was a great Doctor - whoever replaces him/her is gonna be awful or won't measure up."

Heck with it. I've had 50+ years of a male Doctor, I can always revisit whatever Doctor I want on DVD, online, etc. I want to see what Ms. Whittaker brings to the table. I also want to see what her new sonic screwdriver looks like!

I wouldn't have an objection specifically about the gay part -- more of an objection about the Doctor having any sort of a sex life ---- Before Moffat the Doctor was pretty much asexual

I’ve never watched broadchurch but I do remember her from “attack the block” and I did rather enjoy that film.
But it still doesn’t make me happy.I’ve said my piece on why and I’ll leave it at that.
Will I watch a few I’m sure I will I’ve been watching for over forty years.
Women make up 51% of the population so the move makes sense for them it doesn’t me I have to like it.
I am sure Gena Davis is dancing through the hills with this move.
As said before 3 years and she’s out,but then again I was wrong about starbuck so what the hell do I know.....lol

I understand you're not happy about it but why keep making odd statements and sexist remarks that I have to delete?
I watched Broadchurch on Netflix, she is really good.

That makes two Doctors in that show now.

I think when her series run is over, it will be well remembered.
