Agreed. Martin loves to kill characters... but you kinda knew Jon Snow was not dead (even before the fans uncovered the evidence). Although I have to admit, it would be the most epic troll ever if HBO paid Kit Harrington to just hang around Northern Ireland, not cut his hair, and pretend to film scenes.

For me, the most exciting part of that teaser is the "April". There was a lot of speculation that HBO's new show, Vinyl, would keep Thrones off of TV until May.

well it is the worst kept secret in Hollywood. having him on set in costume kind of gave it away

That coffee mug would have totally changed that scene.
And with Ned Stark's beheading, maybe a little Monty Python "Always look on the bright side of life"...

    SPOILERS!!!!

So basically, the best way to make for a thrilling season finale is to kill off a Stark. Again. And again.
We're running out of Starks to kill, so what will be in store for next season? Bran's head on a pike?
To some extent, it's all very exciting, but to me it's mainly depressing.
"So you're fighting for a good cause? Well, you're all going to die horribly!"

They're also pushing the gore factor up a notch, just look at the death in the brothel. Do we really need all that? Young girls being raped and tortured?

To be honest, I think the death of Jon is a good moment to get off this train before it goes crashing into a ravine.
I don't mind a little "grim" in a story, but I don't want to be drowned in it...

Isn't it time a Stark had a win though. They always seem to get it in the neck.

Zombie Mountain is the coolest thing ever - more foreshadowing though?

Hahaha - that's the thought that literally popped into my mind just now. They just happened to bring Melisandre back to the wall? Also, didn't Snow say something about Sam's quick recovery - or am I remembering that wrong?

EDIT: My wife who pays much more attention to the show when Snow is speaking told me I heard the conversation wrong. Snow wasn't saying Sam recovered quickly, he was asking how Sam could perform sexually after being beaten close to death. I was playing on my iPad at the time.

Man, I tried to stay away from the internet as much as possible today because I couldn't watch the finale until tonight! Great, grim episode, I loved it! And finally, zombie/Frankenstein Mountain! Lots of ambiguous possible deaths tonight though, except for Meryn Trant, Arya took care of him really well, that one was certain. Not sure about some of the others.

    SPOILER ?

Pure conjecture at this point, not an actual book spoiler...

Okay - that last episode sucked me back in a bit. I was really tired of that dude.

EDIT: It just now hit me that I might be speaking too soon. Sigh...

yeah, that was a major downer of a season finale. it was a depressing last couple episodes but they killed half the cast last night

I think they spent more on the CGI to put Cersei's face on that body double for the walk of shame than they did for the dragon/coliseum scene

That death was how A Dance with Dragons (the last book) ended, the show has caught right up to the books, Winds of Winter "might" be released before Season 6 debuts next year but, I am not holding my breath. So, barring that miracle, Season 6 will be uncharted territory for all of us.
