Yeah, Legend was very hit and miss for me. Tim Curry is exceptional as Darkness, and that make up & prosthetic is amazing!
Similarly, Meg Mucklebones is great.
But the rest of the picture just didn't really work, IMHO.
And I much prefer the version with the Jerry Goldsmith score.

Legend is a neat movie with great visual effects but overall does not work as well as it should have. the elves never worked for me and there was really not enough action but it is a movie I enjoy watching now and again
Dragonslayer was also a great movie for its day, visual effects for the dragon were really good, but again I thought, even as a kid, it was way to slow movingLeave a comment:

Glad Dragonslayer got mentioned. I remember digging that in the theatre. Caught Legend recently, and remembered how cool I thought it was when it first came out.Leave a comment:

Yeah, Ladyhawke was a rather slow moving, uneventful picture.
Dragonslayer was great, and remains one of my favourites. Vermithrax is still awesome.
Willow remains a disappointment for me. I avidly followed the progress of the film in the magazines of the day, but the movie really just didn't work, regrettably.
Red Sonja was likewise a bit of a disappointment, but it remains more watchable than Willow.Leave a comment:

yeah, Willow is pretty good, once Warwick Davis leaves the village anyway. before that it is rather dull
Red Sonja was awful IMHO
which Hercules movies are you referring to? The Ferigno ones?Leave a comment:

I also remember Dragonslayer. Also the two Hercules movies! Sir Gwain and the Green Knight- starring John Rhys-Davies, Sean Connery, Peter Cushing, the actor that played the nazi henchman in Raiders of the Lost Ark, and some more people I can't think of at the moment. And then there was Red Sonja. The best of the genre, imo, was Willow (which isn't saying much since most of the Swords and Sorcery movies of the 80's were pretty bad and derivative). Last year I got Willow on Blu-Ray and it has held up extremely well for its 26-27 years.Leave a comment:

I thought Ladyhawke was one of the few decent ones from that period.

I Loved that movie! I remember a few years ago they were talking about a sequel called "Hawk The Hunter" . It never happened

I'll never forget Richard Lynch's kill scene in the Sword and the Sorcerer. That was pretty bloody for it's day and what was quickly becoming the standard for that genre.Leave a comment:

wow, I did not even know they made that sequel. looks like it was a train wreck. what a shame. I really liked the Talon character and Horsely made it a lot of fun. Sword and the Sorcerer was cheesy at times but it was a fun ride.Leave a comment:

It took a while, but "Tales Of An Ancient Empire" did eventually appear.
Still love most of the 80s sword & sorcery movies... Conan The Barbarian, The Sword and the Sorcerer, The Beastmaster, Hawk the Slayer, Fire and Ice, Krull, Excalibur, Clash of the Titans, et al.
Deathstalker had its good points. Also recall Ironmaster, and Sorceress, which I remember renting on Betamax back around 1983.
