Quite a bit of the kaiju-jaeger combat does take place during night, or during rain, but it doesn't tend to detract from the action too much.Leave a comment:

I've heard about people complaining that it almost all takes place during rainy nights...that could be annoying to me.Leave a comment:

Just got back form it. I can't even comment on it. I stared at a movie screen for 90 minutes, something was happening, but I'm not sure what. It was dark and screechy and loud and it rained the entire movie. There was a lot of water. The script was something a film school student would come up with. It was Top Gun meets Robo Jocks with monsters and a far cry from what del Toro did with Pan's Labyrinth. Ron Perlman was entertaining. That's about it. I honestly don't know what I just watched.Leave a comment:

I'd definitely see it, I love giant Japanese-influenced monsters.
Plus Guillermo del Toro rules.
I mean come on, giant monsters vs giant robots...what's not to like...lol.Leave a comment:

I cant wait to see it tomorrow afternoon! I'd go tonight if it weren't for that pesky thing called "Work"!Leave a comment:

Thankfully, they kept the "human" side to an acceptable percentage. There are some training sequences, a few flashbacks, a few research sequences in the lab, and some (genuinely entertaining) character moments featuring the main protagonists, but there's certainly plenty of full on kaiju vs. jaeger action.Leave a comment:

Now for the improtant question: how much of the film is characters and how much is robot fightin'?

Saw it this morning in IMAX 3D.
Been anticipating this movie highly since it was first announced, and I certainly wasn't disappointed.
The characters are broadly drawn and likeable personalities who you really do want to prevail against the odds, and the action sequences are truly awesome.
For fans of kaiju movies, anime, mecha, etc... this is a must see.
Del Toro has done a great job with this movie.
And be sure to stick around for the post-credits coda.

>The first trailer I saw in theaters, I thought the robots were Iron Man
Yeah.... that's another concern for me; the overall designs are very 1970's super-robot, but they busy them up with all the pipework and plating. I hate that look, 'cos it's a really bad idea for a combat machine. I think something closer to this would have been better:
....but if the film is still mostly giant robots punching out giant monsters I'm okay with it.

The first trailer I saw in theaters, I thought the robots were Iron Man. The second time, I thought they were Transformers.
I'll pass.Leave a comment:

Hmmmm....
I've heard some mixed stuff, but none of which tells me what's important to ME. I think for me what'll denote how I feel about the film.... which I suspect IS pretty typical.... is the ratio of monster stomping to "Maveric! You're a loose cannon.... but I love you!" scenes.

Early reviews have been pretty good so far.
Apparently it fully delivers on its promise of epic scale mecha vs kaiju carnage.
