One of the scariest movies ever. It would be interesting to see what happened to the first scientist who let it out. Unfortunatly werent they all Norwegian?

The midnight cheap shows had a little clip in the begining with someone running through the "midnight train" in a Parka yelling Stop that Dog.

Funny thing; I always kinda felt like the remake was a sequel to the original.

Would they do it completely in Norwegian, or English with funny accents?

I'd rather see a sequel, with someone finding the frozen bodies of Russell and Keith David. I think if one of them was eventually a fragment of the Thing, it could easily wait for a new rescue crew and start all over again....
They are actually using several Norwegian actors. And yes, they have stated that the last shot in the film will be two Norwegians taking shots at a fleeing dog.

They've put a lot of work into studying all the Norwegian parts of the Carpenter version and CSIing everything shown to construct many of the set pieces. So they're definitely fans and trying to do the job right. But I'm pretty sure there's not much to be gained by showing what happened at the Norwegian camp. Even if they reveal something we didn't know, like a bunch of survivors running around in hidden ice caves below the camp, or another Thing still lurking around there.

I need to watch the remake again, but I seem to remember Russell and Co. watching footage of the Norwegian team finding the saucer and it was an homage to the 1951 version. Maybe this will be a tighter remake of that movie.

That seems like a weird idea. A sequel wouldn't surprise me, but I am surprised by a prequel. I don't worry about bad re-makes, sequels, or the like. They can be tough to swallow in the moment, but I don't think they diminish the original material in the long term.
The Thing is one of my favorite horror films. One of the best aspects of it is the lack of explanation. For one thing, you can imagine all sorts of interesting things (pardon the pun) rather than rely on some fixed idea of what is going on. The ignorance of the doomed group is easier to relate to than half-assed theorizing. Even Wilford Brimley doesn't really understand the creatures motivations beyond consuming them and surviving. He just knows they're doomed.
Also, it is clear that the alien IS capable of communicating with humans with speech but it doesn't want to or doesn't see the need. That's makes it much more frightening on a whole other level. For me that is very chilling, a totally indifferent and incidently hostile being.

I've been following this, and I can't imagine how it isn't going to be lame. What can it bring to the table that the original didn't already do? And we know how it ends. I just can't imagine it's going to be worthwhile to watch for anyone familiar with the original.

Very strange, I have heard rumors of a film before AND I had also heard that there was at one point in time, plans for a tv mini series.
Maybe they will let Tim Burton direct it so that he can ruin another one of my favorite films.

"Watch Clark and watch him close you wearweee!?"

Apparently I read the blurb wrong. My bad!.
Kurt Russell will not be in it. But it is a prequel.
    From IMDB:
Is this film a remake of the 1982 film "The Thing"?

No. From what the media is claiming, this film will actually serve as a prequel to the 1982 movie The Thing, as the film will detail the events that took place in the Norwegian camp from that film.

If you look up any of the proposed and existing "Thing" projects they all have "The Thing" as their title. Unfortunately, this confuses a lot of the public audience, but that's what Universal wants.
