I really enjoyed the last movie although the Trekkie in me wonders how much of TOS feel was kept in. It was really an action movie without the philosophical underpinnings.

However, considering the franchise was dead in the water, they probably had to go this route to kickstart things. I'm interested to see where they go from here.

Besides me not liking Romulan's to begin with, i'm also not a big fan of one crazy badguy plots.

That same reason is why I don't rank Wrath of Kahn high on my like list -- and truly hate Nemesis.

    ALRIGHT...Mikey saw IT!!!!

I did like Nero however as the baddie.

As for Kirk becoming Captain to soon...I think he proved himself. Nero destroyed an entire Klingon Amarda of 47 Klingon Warship, defeated 6 of Starfleet's finest...and Kirk overcomes the impossible odds(which is what Kirk alway does BEST!)and defeats a far advanced superior Enemy! In which proves the no win scenario wrong... Kirk faces his own Kobayashi Maru for real! If none of these things makes him worthy of the promotion to Captain...I don't what does??(Plus...you know he had Pike pulling for him...I'm sure he had plenty of influence).

Aside from First Contact...the rest of TNG movies blow big time.

I totally agree with you and Mikey's line about Romulan Villains with tattoos all over their heads. That and the new Bridge were aspects of the new flick I personally didn't like. Didn't quite track with it when I first saw it at the movie house, but after watching it a few times, the movie as a whole started registering.

I also saw it first rather late, after 9pm for me, and I don't know about the rest of you all, but that's late to start a film for me.. It's called getting old...

ST-TMP had a GREAT majestic feel to it and will always be a special film for me (more so the 'Directors Cut', which was a nice improvement..), 'Undiscovered Country' had a LOT going for it.., and the ending for 'Search for Spock' will always be the most poignant.

Both 'First Contact' and the latest will always be among my favorites.

    Did not like ....
I did not like the Romulan baddy ... To be honest, I always hated any Romulan's that were not on the classic series.
This Romulan gave this movie a Star Trek Nemisis feel.
There were a few totally unbelievable things in this movie I just could not accept -- including Kirk becoming Captain of the Enterprise (in the conclusion) so fast.
Did not like the Uhura and Spock thing ...

Some stuff I did like .......
The crew were good choices ... I especially liked the new Chekov.
The Enterprise is still weird looking, but I got used to it.
Sarak seem to be a bit more "cool" ... The old Sarak (classic series) was a bit of an jerk.

Like I said, all in all not bad ..... But for me personally, the big killer was having a Romulan as the main baddy ... I just think Romulans are sooooooo boring.
Well...I'm glad you actually watched it and was open-minded enough not to totally hate it...so I give you props for that...I'm glad it was not a total waste for you, Mike.

I thought the movie was good. They had to do something to revitalize the franchise. I think they did a great job finding "younger versions" of our older favorites!

Well, that's something. Glad you liked it.

Also, it's not my favorite Trek movie either but I really did like it and think it's a great relaunch.

To start off, it was better than I expected, BUT, I can't believe anyone would say this is the best Star Trek movie ever... or even have it high on your lists above Classic crew movies ...

My list of best Star Trek movies in order is ....

    1. The Search For Spock
    2. The Undiscovered Country
    3. The Voyage Home
    4. The Wrath of Kahn
    5. The Final Frontier
    6. The Motion Picture
    7. Star Trek (new movie)
    8. First Contact
    9. all the rest

"Star Trek" was "ok", but I generally felt like I was watching an internet fan production like New Voyages.

It was the best Star Trek movie since 1991 ... But that's about all the credit I can give it.

To each his own, I guess.

    My two cents:

Wrath of Kahn/Search for Spock - best serious Trek movie
The Voyage Home - best fun Trek movie
    The Final Frontier - worst

The new movie was terrifically entertaining (although much of the plot elements were preposterous). I just didn't really care about the changing timeline business - why not? If it means more Star Trek movies - more power to J. J. Abrams! They were true to the spirit of the lore, if not the letter.
