actually I've watched the recons of the lost stories most are pretty slow and most are god awful bad.
Evil of the Daleks was a winner so was web of fear.
the missing cybermen stories aren't anything new if you've seen 10th planet
Dalek Master plan is WAYYY too long

It sounds like I am in for quite a ride. I wish I would have started this journey years ago.

It's a tough one ... Father's Day makes it sound like history can't be changed if it involves death ... Tennant also mentioned he can't change history because it's a "fixed point in time".
But most other shows contradict these notions...

Father's Day does give one possible clue .... Eccleston said something to the nature of -- my people would have stopped this from happening ... meaning perhaps history can be changed IF the Time Lords allow it.

At first I was thinking, "Just do it! Kill them!" but then I started to see his point. It would change the future. Maybe it would seem to be the right move, but maybe not. In the end, I would have done it anyways, even with my limited knowledge of the Doctor Who universe.

Had things gone bad without the existence of Daleks, couldn't The Doctor go back to change what he changed? He does travel through time, right?

All this time stuff is fun. I've always liked the idea of time travel, and having these questions come up is great. I love thinking about this stuff. I can't believe I avoided watching this show for years.

Our local library has several Doctor Who audiobook dramatizations with narration added. When I first became curious about the show I looked at one or two of those audiobooks and I think it stated that it was the original episode audio with narration added. I could be wrong. Either way, I guess I'll be checking them out soon.

that depends on which season in the first few stories he is more alien and detached. Later his is very much a grandfatherly old man

This dilemma would never even enter the mind of William Hartnell, Colin Baker or Sly McCoy

    BTW, a little trivia ....

RTD considers Genesis of the Daleks to be the start of the Time War.
True but it would have been in the mind of Jon and Peter and they would have done as Tom did. I think Patrick would have had a moral dilema but would have done the deed with a spoken regret

Glad you liked the classic who Drako...

Brig and unit are carry overs from the 3rd Doctor era so they appear a few times in Tom's era but not much. the good thing about you starting with Tom is many of his early shows are out on dvd. The next 2 episode after Genesis are on dvd yet (most of the next few seasons isn't on dvd yet).

if you want PM me and I can send you a list of which stories are available on dvd and which are only on VHS

That's good news! It gives me something to look forward (or backward) to after the fourth Doctor's run. As much as I am liking it now, I can only imagine that more action will be even more fun. Thanks, T1K.

Actually starting with Planet of the Spiders would work good too.
Spiders is a nice action packed story that holds attention (for a new fan) ...
They also get to see a regeneration and have it explained on screen (at least in part) --- then they start out fresh with a new Doctor as their second story.

The only downside is ... Tom is never as fast paced or action packed as Jon so a new fan might think the Tom Doctor is a bit boring after watching Jon.

Great place to pick it up. Mr. Baker is, after all, the Mego Doctor Who.
