Yeah, I loved that part! It reminded Me of Star Trek 4...when Scotty gave the Guy the Formula to transparrent Iluminium.
And I have to conceed...Spock has mess with this new timeline. But I guess he feels Nero changed it first...so he has to "correct" certain things.

Check out this link Katra - Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki it explains how and why Vulcan's use this practice...it's so future generations can benefit from some ones past experiances....plus old Spock pulled a "scotty"(STIII) on Scotty when he and Kirk were on Delta Vega...he gave him his future formulation on trans warp transporter technology....remember how Scotty said "I never thought of this"....also old Spock is forming the new Vulcan colony....he will undoubtedly confide in certain vulkuns...he felt definite gilt on what happened to Romulus.

As a long term Trekker it will take a little getting used to.

I enjoyed it and definitely recommend seeing it on the big screen.
Saw it on IMAX also. Loved it. Might need a hearing aid now though. lol I wonder how the film will effect the novels though. Even with it splintering off for an alternate universe, Romulus is still gone in the original one. That is bound to change some things.

You may be right... but when Spock gave his memories to McCoy in "wrath" they were compressed...McCoy had no idea what Spock put in his head...he only became aware when it was the right time to.Just think about it,old Spock knows what mistakes Kirk might make again("space seed" for one....if Kirk handles Kahn differently...Spock and Kirks son don't die?)and may solve big problems yet to happen.
Plus old Spock is in the new time line...he will make sure what happened before(Romulus/Vulcan)won't happen again, and he will be around to nudge young Spock in the right directions. He has come full circle. He knows what mistakes he made in his life...young Spock already has taken a different path than old Spock did.

I'm sure this movie will be huge!

I didn't get a chance to see it because of various sporting events and Mother's Day.

I wouldn't be surprised if this weekend exceeds opening weekend since I'm sure there are many people in the same boat as me.

I'm not knocking it (because I haven't seen it) .... I'd just like a more well rounded review.

All i'm getting from this thread is sickly sweet fluff
I can definitely give you a review that is more than "sweet fluff," BUT that objective critique would ultimately say this is is one heck of a movie!

Rather than just repeat what's in the the other threads I will say this was extremely respectful of the sprit of the series and the characters. Yes, it changed the backstory, but it did so in ways to create an exciting new adventure for the characters we love.

Ultiamtely, if you're going to take on the monumental task of remaking an iconic piece of culture, you need to make some changes. Let's face it, these things are usually iconic because they were so amazing in the first place. There is NO reason to just redo it exactly as it was dopne when it was done so very well the first time around. If it is worth redoing, it has to be done in an original way, but with the spirit and feel that made the original so great.

I thin kthe challenge for the sequels will be to make the same type of social statements TOS did with the same level of action and great characters as bothe the series and this movie has so wonderfully done.

Now if the if the original backstory is sacred to you (and I'm not being sarcastic, I realize the importance of the show for some), then you most likely hated this movie long before it was ever made.

I am really glad to see that there is a lot of people here whom like the new Star Trek movie. I admit I was and still am a bit skeptical as I have yet to see it for myself. I am so used to movies getting hyped up only to be let down at the theatres time and time again. I do not even get my hopes up any more. Every now and then a good movie still happens though. I like reading all of your reviews. Keep them coming!

It's a great ride. I can't believe they pulled off such a tribute to the original series while simultaneously erasing it. This movie will have legs as word of mouth spreads. I have no major quibbles with it. The best thing I can say about it is that it made me wish that i was a bigger Trek fan all along.

The characters were all there and I truly loved the experience.

I'm an ardent TOS fan, hate the spin offs terribly (the animated show is fine) but this was my Star Trek again, I've missed it.
This is what I've been saying on my recent posts....."the franchise had to correct its past mistakes"
