Ahhhh..., You can't ''win'' someone's Opinion Bro...., if that were the case,.. imo the Steelers & Patriots would never win the Superbowl again.
BTW... Hayden wasn't that bad,.. it was the direction of the character... YOU are Suppost to Hate Anikan/Vader .... There is suppost to be no love for him,.. he IS evil & the Villian.
BTW... I caught an Episode of GooseBumps from the 90's ... & there was a very young,.. maybe 12 yrs old, Haden in this episode. I thought it was interesting....Last edited by BlackKnight; Mar 20, '09, 2:11 AM.Leave a comment:

Hmmmm....
Gotta go with the first as my fave. Even now, it's so different from any other sci-fi film. They wanted space to look "lived in," and it did. Sure the story is as old as time; but it's the presentation that really made the film.
Then Empire. ATATs rule!
Then Jedi; mostly 'cos it wraps up the original story.
The Attack of the Clones. I really liked the clones; although it seemed like SEVERE fan service that they're all Boba Fett.... er.... Boba Fett is Jango Fett.... um.... The whiney Anakin bits were grating, but the army of clones made up for it.
Then Revenge of the Sith; although it' WAY back from clones. That's 'cos it played out exactly how Lucas said it would, many many moons ago. It looked nice, but it seemed like a recap. Except for the Grievous bits at the beginning, which felt like I had missed the first half of the film.
Then the Holiday Special. It's bad; but it's SOOOOOO bad. Like nothing could ever be THAT bad. Even the next entry isn't that all-encompasingly bad.
The next entry being Phantom Menace. It was bad, blah and had WAY too much JarJar. (Made me miss the Ewoks, he did.)
Speakin' on which; I wasn't a fan of the two Ewok tv movies. They were really watered down and unsurprising.
>6) Star Wars: The Phantom Menace - I have but one question... How many people, upon leaving the theater after quiting their jobs or getting fired for standing in line to be the first to see this film, located the closest bridge and jumped?
Not nearly enough?

The Clone Wars series and toys are really the only modern toys I'm into at the moment. They are great, stylized and there's not enough of them to make you break the bank collecting them.
ALL of the Star Wars films have things that make you go hmmm, but the newer ones were not a part of my childhood, so they didn't get off as easy. I teach high school art and the newer films are LOVED by my students while the old ones are just glazed over. Darth Maul and Mace Windu are by far the most popular.
Like I said, all of the films have entertained me, but a few of them, like Phantom Menace, are hard to rewatch (although from the point the music kicks in at the end of Phantom Menace where you see Darth Maul flash the double lightsaber the whole movie rocks).
I'm always amused how the "old guard" who despises the
new STAR WARS trilogy are faced with the undeniable fact that
the younger generation fell in love with the new STAR WARS
and is less jazzed about the old one the old guard grew up with.
It's one thing to PREFER the old trilogy but to have so
much HATE towards the new trilogy seems unwarranted/ugly to me----
the fact that it has seduced the younger generation confirms this
----My belief is that one may not like the new trilogy, but it's successes
dictate respect...or at the very least, acknowledgement.
To NOT acknowledge this makes for a real black & white scenario
that comes off as eyebrow-raisingly short-sighted ---in my opinion.
I don't particularly love PHANTOM or CLONES but they are fun---
and they are STAR WARS----that's enough for me to not want to
come off like I want to slit throats due to a bunch of nitpicky type stuffLast edited by huedell; Mar 20, '09, 12:19 AM.Leave a comment:

BTW...that's how the Darth Maul scene should've been shown...with no cuts and interruptions to the other crap going on back and forth (you know, cut to the stupid Padame palace gunfight/escape scene, cut to the stupid Jar Jar army vs robot army fight scene, and cut to the stupid horrid-acting little Anakin vs Trade Federation space station scene).
I think George Lucas was on drugs directing that movie, lol.
Let's enjoy Darth Maul's uninterrupted lightsaber duel once again. Shall we?

Ray Park makes stiff and wooden Hayden Christensen look like a paralyzed sloth, lol.
I may hate The Phantom Menace...but I do not hate the lightsaber duel with Darth Maul...that my friend...is what I call a kickazz lightsaber duel.
Even the background music score in that scene is kickazz...if only the rest of Phantom Menace would've been that awesome.
Checkmate.

Wait...
You rank Biodrome over Glen or Glenda? G or G's a classic! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!?!
Yeah - there are only three Star Wars movies. The only thing that might be grudgingly accepted as on a level with Holiday Special would be the Clone Wars animated series. Prequels are like ST: Enterprise - they never actually happened and anyone who says they did are victims of mass hallucination. As such:
1) Star Wars (not because it's our favorite, but because it has a cantina, jawas and tusken raiders)
2) Empire (because it's our favorite, but it doesn't have a cantina, jawas or tusken raiders)
3) Jedi (because it's the only one left. ...Ok and for Sarlaac monsters)
And for clarification purposes: There was a lot of genuine talent involved with the prequels, unfortunately none of it came from Lucas.
Like the reason Empire is so much better a film than Star Wars (before it was retitled New Hope) is because of Lucas hiring out people better than he is to script doctor and direct. He pulled the the reigns back in for Jedi again, which in my opinion is why it sucked a little more.
(though if SW had kept the scene at Toschi station where it's revealed that Luke is by and large disliked by most of the people on the planet and kind of a whiny loner without any friends I think the film would have been helped greatly and might actually be my authentic #1 choice for what it says about the lies we tell ourselves, the turning of Luke's character and over all development... I think it would have made a stronger, more textured story)
By prequels time lucas had already just gone bat crazy because there was no one there to tell him "no, you can't do that." He's an idea guy but one who seriously needs an editor and he's grown too powerful for anyone to tell him what to do.
The prequels were also hurt by the THX1138 problem. Lucas tried to answer his critics with American Graffiti, which did well, but you can almost see him shake that off and say, "Whoo! Glad I never have to do THAT again" when it comes to characterization and emotional depth. He's much happier moving the pieces around and putting spectacle in the background than he is comfortable setting up dramatic tension. Death of a Salesman is not what he does. I think you may draw a direct line from his directorial style and what ends up on the screen.
I think a lot of the actors are very talented (maybe not so much Hayden, don't really care for him) but especially Ewan - you can "almost" see him trying to act out of his constrictions in some areas. He gets to go over the top in the final sith scene, but overall you don't see the emotion as much as you get told about it with anyone in these three flicks.
I consider myself amongst the ranks of "biggest SW fan ever" people, like any SW geek does - SW was the first movie my parents said I shut up through - and I obsessed on finding a Jawa figure to the point that my father and sister (two who tried to avoid each other and for good reason) got together and scoured every Sears and grocery store in three towns until they found some and my old man (notoriously spendthrift) bought five. I had tickets to watch all the rereleases at midnight for the first showings. I'm the kind of guy who will smile politely for the worst third grade talent show and then clap when it's over.
I literally fell asleep in Episode 2.

PS - if you watch extras in the the Indiana Jones trilogy set there's some interesting stuff from both lucas and spielberg about filming. Lucas talks about how he "tried to do this or that for spielberg" and separately, spielberg is trying to be polite, saying, "Well, George we put up on a mountain or something with a spare camera we had... but my DP shot some excellent footage for the chase scene as a second unit because I had my hands full - really dynamic and great action - things I wouldn't have thought of... what? Lucas' stuff? Oh no... I don't think we ended up using any of that. ...Maybe."Last edited by Tothiro; Mar 19, '09, 11:25 PM.Leave a comment:
