There is a really great UK series called "Year of the Rabbit" which is about a detective in Victorian London, it's a comedy but it especially revels in how gross it really was.

I think this was made for me. I love anything Victorian that has shades of life in Whitechapel.

Outside Magoo, I can't recall another version I liked. Maybe Stewart's.

If I was shown George C Scott's version one more time, I'd beat someone with Scrooge's cane.

    That was Dickens exact point.

I never got that message at all. It's not about being happy, but rather showing kindness, compassion, and generosity towards others.
It's not that Scrooge is miserable, it's that he cares nothing for his fellow man.

I googled after this thread and it does sound miserable. But in a way more realistic.

But I still think the big thing the remake over looks is A Christmas Carol is fantasy. People want/need that feel good romanticized fantasy of redemption.

Tubi TV has the Henry Winkler version that I've been hunting for years. I'm halfway through it, think I'll be good with my pee-free version. Thanks for the warning Dwayne.

She was really good in Doctor Who and I also don't mind her casting but I think this whole thing does sound ghastly, can't wait to see for myself.

OK, now I kind of want to see this for myself.

I almost turned it off about three or four times, but it was like a horrible train wreck you couldn't look away from.
When it was over my wife and I just looked at each other like "What the hell did we just watch?" LOL
