^Yep. I think that's one reason it's called "MAD" Monster Party. Mad was a big draw back then, and any alum from there meant quality stuff.

Just read a review of the BD, and it's supposed to look pretty decent, if not great (not surprising considering the condition of the source material they probably had to work with). One thing the review mentioned that piqued my interest was that the monsters were designed by Jack Davis, and Harvey Kurtzman helped with the script. That's pretty cool.Leave a comment:

I have fond memories of staying up late on friday nights with my Mom watching Godzilla, Universal Monsters, Hammer and B horror movies. We had to watch them sitting close to the TV with the volume very low so not to disturb my Dad who wasn't into those kinds of movies.Leave a comment:

Don't feel bad. I didn't know about it until I was 11 or 12, and came home from a friend's house to discover it on TV one Sunday afternoon. I had seen nearly every Rankin/Bass special, and by that time some of them had been retired. I didn't see this again until it came out on DVD and folks started talking about it here.Is it blasphemous to admit that I've never seen this? In fact, I'd never even heard about it until a few years ago. I don't know how this thing completely slipped under my radar all these years, when by the looks of it, the childhood me would have gobbled it up! Guess this Blu-ray release is a good excuse to finally check it out.

The kids love the other Rankin-Bass stuff but they've never totally accepted MMP. Probably has something to do with the fact that I introduced it late to them and it's classic monsters, which being girls they've never been in to...Leave a comment:

It's not just her, the song's just a mess compared to the other songs in this and other Rankin Bass productions. But her delivery doesn't help it out any either.
Seems like a cut song that was reinserted into a director's cut or something.

Agreed, not to disrespect the dead but the song styling of Phyllis Diller is the scariest thing about the movie.Leave a comment:

We all like it at the house, but the "You're Different" song is the least favorite of the lot for us. It just kind of comes out of nowhere, way early in the movie too.
