I remember seeing The Blob remake in the 80's and the scene in the movie theater and the sewer where the kids get eaten really left an impression on me. The same thing goes for American Werewolf In London when he has the dream and those "soldiers" bust in on the family watching The Muppets. These were about the only movies I saw where kids my age bought the farm on screen. Aside from that Freddy Kreuger scared the crap out of me and the TV preview for The Fly 2 (the one with the Hush, Little Baby song) would have me running from the room whenever it came on. Both of those movies are laughable today but again I was like 10 at the time.
In terms of modern day terror, I don't think I've ever been disturbed by a movie like I was when I saw House Of 1000 Corpses. I wasn't scared as much as I horrified by the content. I remember turning to my friend as we were leaving the theater and saying "Who would want to make a film like this?" To this day I have not seen anything else Rob Zombie has done.

What movie monsters REALLY scare you ?

The two monsters that scared the daylights out of me as a kid were the Blob, because it could hide under your bed and pull you under, and the I'D monster from Forbidden Planet.
The thought of a giant invisible monster that could be right next to you without knowing is still scary to me.Leave a comment:

Deadly Blessing
The only movie that still really gets to me is The Exorcist and Linda Blair's possessed face.Leave a comment:

Linda Blair's possession in the Exorcist. I can't remember if it was the devil or a demon. Anyway, that movie really scared me as a kid and stills gets to me today..Leave a comment:

What was the movie that had the freaky guy make the lady laying down open her mouth and a huge freaky spider lowered into her mouth from a web? Saw that as a kid and remember sleeping with my head under the covers for the longest time afterwards.Leave a comment:

The Ghost-Girl in The Ring. It's a combination of how she kills people and the jump-cuts that make her move.
I can hardly stand to watch it.
As a kid, Alien was really terrifying.Leave a comment:

When I was a little kid, I was always afraid of the Frankenstein monster. The close up of Boris turning around for the monster's initial reveal always scared me as a kid. I use to have trouble going to sleep at night afterwards. But it was like a car accident. You just have to look. Watching Ghost of Frankenstein really got my imagination going. Because when I realized he could be inside my walls, that just fed my imagination to new levels. I never understood how "scholars" of those films would always say children sympathized with the monster. I must have been the exception. In my mind what was there to sympathize about a creature that possessed the mind of a murderer? And in the original edited version of Frankenstein they didn't show how the girl at the pond was killed. It was suggested he thought the girl might float like the daisies. But the fact you didn't see the events which led to her drowning gave it a more sinister implication. Yeah, Franky scared the crap out of me. Of course he's also one of my all time favorite monsters too. Funny how that works.Leave a comment:

How funny Mike, That is also my Fav and I was having dreams of late that not only the green one was chasing me but a few new ones also.......I use to dream when I was a kid that he was going to eat me in my sleep so i left the light on then i realized he was attracted to the light he knew that's where there was food....me....
Last year i actually did a drawing based on that dream.......I lived right across the street from a church in a high story apartment..this is what i saw in my dream

It's funny how something that scares us is most likely laughable to kids nowadays
That drawing is fantastic !!! ...Leave a comment:

I don't know if these count as monsters or not. the hag in the hotel room from the Shining. and the little ghost girls. they still give me the creeps.
As a kid I was scared senseless by Lon Chaney Jr's transformation into the Wolfman in Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein. As an adult, he's my favorite Universal monster! While he doesn't scare me, I feel Oliver Reed's werewolf in Curse of the Werewolf is the most visually frightening human-werewolf on film.

as a kid Salems Lot gave me nightmares. Barlow was scary as hell. as an adult I found 30 days of night really scary. now, those vampires were creepy
i see a common theme here, i guess vampires scare me, at least when they are not brooding, sparkly pretty boys like that twlight garbageLeave a comment:

The original ALIEN(S)
They are vicious, they exist solely to kill you, they can't be reasoned with, and they are scary as hell looking.Leave a comment:

For me the biggest one would probably be the green Gargantua
As a kid it terrifed me and as an adult it must still subconsciously bug me because I sometimes still have dreams about being chased by it
Remember, this is NOT necessarily a what's your favorite monster thread ...I use to dream when I was a kid that he was going to eat me in my sleep so i left the light on then i realized he was attracted to the light he knew that's where there was food....me....

I agree Mikey, I saw War of The Gargantuas as a little kid on the Saturday Creature Feature (which was broadcast from Boston) in the 70s and it freaked me out. I was also really freaked out as a kid by Christopher Lee's Dracula.
The only other monsters that really scared me (that I can recall), was when I saw the Salem's Lot TV mini-series with Barlow the vampire and the Space:1999 episode Dragon's Domain with the alien tentacle monster (not really movies, I know)...I had nightmares about them for weeks.
