    Yeah---what he said.

I do think this is gonna be pretty good. And remember, it's not a remake so much as a prequel, so "things" are gonna be a little different....

This looks and sounds like a retread of the 80's version, but, hey, more monsters, more horror and Mary Elizabeth Winstead . I'm seeing this!

The trailer looks good, though it does feel like a sort of remake.
I've seen worse, so I'll give this one a try.

Though as a prequel, I would have preferred The Thing: First Class, where all the young Things go to school. I can see the teacher shouting: "Hey, Thing. Yeah you, in the last row! Stop replicating your desk and start paying attention!"

Wasn't it supposed to BE Flash Gordon, but DeLaurentis had the rights?

....which kinda supports your theory even more....

Well, Star Wars was created as an homage to Flash Gordon and other classic space serials, but it is clearly it’s own beast. If somehow Star Wars were never made but the film industry remained in the state it is, it’s quite easy to conceive of this modern Hollywood “re-imagining” Flash Gordon with a darker plot and not much variation in concept.

That’s the issue. Old ideas are simply being regurgitated and not being digested into something newer than the source.

Been anticipating this movie highly since it was announced.

I like the fact that they went the prequel route rather than doing a remake.

Now, we'll actually get to see the Norwegian team discovering the ship and defrosting the alien and everything.

Of course, this movie should end with the helicopter chasing the Thing-Dog across the ice! Here's hoping.

    Not exactly.

There were many Vampire related silent films but really only two that actually featured Dracula and both were unauthorized. The lost "Dracula's Death/Drakula Halala" (1921) which isn't an adaption of the novel and takes place in an insane asylum where an inmate claims to be Dracula and the famous Nosferatu (1922). Nosferatu is very good BTW. Be sure to watch the color tinted one.

Frankenstein, there were only 3 I can think of. The most famous being Edison's version from 1910 and the lost 1915 "Life without Soul." Life without soul is very loosely adapted. Lastly there is the also lost "Il mostro di Frankenstein" from 1921. Edison's Frankenstein is surprisingly impressive considering its age and it's only about 13 minutes long.

This actually looks pretty cool, and I'll try and catch it on cable or something.

In the horror genre? More like in general. Seriously look at the major new and hyped releases. Then look back on the 1980s or 1970s. It’s tons of rehashes nowadays.

But that said, this prequel/re-imagining looks really good. The first Thing freaked the hell out of me. This is pushing the right buttons yet again.
