I think his first 4 movies are his best excluding his USC film project Darkstar- 1974 I did not care for it personally

The Fog 1980
Escape from New York 1981

after that came The Thing remake 1982 and he started working for the big studios Like Universal he lost all control and the problems started .

Gotta agree with just about everything you said.

Did the ending of Prince of Darkness give you chills as well, or was it just me?

And I love Assault on Precinct 13. I have it on Blu-ray. Just wouldn't put it in the top 5.

The whole movie Prince of Darkness gave me chills. I think it's great - that's why I listed it as #2. But yes - the end was amazing. That last shot... *shiver*

Yeah, the downward progression is pretty sad to watch. He's got a bunch of stuff upcoming according to IMDB, and I'll still watch in the hopes of him remembering what he used to be, but his track record in the last 15 years doesn't fill me with optimism.

the last deccent thing I have seen of John was his contribution to the Showtimes "Masters of Horrors" series " PRO-LIFE" which I thought was brilliant. Before that was the village of the damned which I have and will watch but it's not my favorite. I think though sadly, anything beyond that to current is not good to say the least. I mean Ghost of mars!?!?! Come on! and of course John Carpenter's MOST famous film. ever!!!.........

Just watched the import Blu-ray last night. Great flick but who picked Tom Atkins for the lead? I have a problem seeing him and Jamie Lee Curtis as love interests in a movie. Picture was pretty good. Better than any of the DVD versions, but I hope they do a clean up and release here in the states.
