When my American friend Scott came over to Europe, he wanted to go to a tribute band (Bjorn Again), playing in England.
We went together, and some of the songs are still haunting my thoughts.
And not in a good way.
That was in 2004.
Please shoot me....

PS: he also loves Celine Dion and Barbara Streisand.

I remember reading somewhere that the song "Waterloo" was written for some type of European amateur competition that they won.

That would be the Eurovision song contest. ABBA won in Brighton, England in 1974.

The contest still takes place every year and is massive right across Europe.

Best ABBA song..........Eagle.

My wife has mentioned wanting to see "Mama Mia" but not begging or anything. We did see the play a few years ago so we can wait for it to come out on DVD. I still haven't seen "Dark Knight" yet and have told my wife I will go to "Mama Mia" if she goes to "Dark Knight". She has yet to accept my offer.

"S.O.S" is my favorite ABBA song actually, hehe. I like ABBA alot in fact. Though I can't stand that stupid "Chiquitita" song. Cool lyrics but annoying melody. Anyhow...

My wife's a huge ABBA fan - I'm not particular to their music, but I'm a fan of ANY artists that can make excellent music, production-wise, catchy-lyric-wise, so I've become a fan myself.. Not that I'd go out and buy their stuff, but they have my respect for making darn good music. Enjoyed the Mama Mia stage show quite well ~

I'm a huge McCartney fan, so I'm familiar with the 'can't-get-it-out-of-my-head' stuff. DAMN HIM for making such catchy tunes, but I'd prefer him to ABBA for hundreds of reasons, especially the awesome guitar players he had, like Denny Laine, Laurence Juber and Jimmy McCoullogh (RIP..). Just listen to some rockers like 'Juniors Farm' and 'Spin It On'. Would rather hear those live than having to hear 'Hey Jude' all the time...!

A sure cure for that: Manowar. Lots and lots of Manowar. I suggest "Hands of Doom" or "The Crown and the Ring" or "Thor: The Powerhead."

"Carry On" would be the catchiest thing ManOWar ever wrote but it doesn't matter, it seems the worse you dislike a catchy pop song, the more it's like a piece of gum you just got on your fingers, you can't get rid of it.

I had that abysmal "I kissed a girl" song in my head for days after one viewing of the totally misleading video...

ABBA was my favourite band when I was a kid, the only one I ever really went nuts about. I still think that their lyrics are very clever, particularly considering that English is not their native language. That being said, I hate getting any song stuck in my mind, and SOS is a particularly sticky one ;P

And that's the secret to their success. I have to admit to being a bit of a closet fan (not to the extent of buying their CDs or anything though). What can I say, when I was growing up in the 70's, I was constantly exposed to their music.

There was an ABBA cover band playing at work one night, and I was loading the ATMs. So of course the one right next to the stage conks out and I had to wait a half hour for someone to come fix it. A half hour of ABBA exposure.... I shoulda sued for comp!
