on the top of my list is George Clooney .... I can't stand him! ... every movie he's in that I've seen, he acts the same ... it's like two hours of The Facts of Life.

Jennifer Aniston is a pretty good comedic actress...a la Meg Ryan.

I go back and forth with Jim Carrey, Jack Black and Adam Sandler; but there is more dislike than like with these three.
lol! I love Raymond and Robert, but Robert is kind of annoying in real life

I agree with ctc about the actors that you haven't heard from for awile. One actor currently in a movie that I can't stomach is Eddie Murphy. He was last funny in 48 hours! JOHN

    Hmmmm....

I think it's funny that about half the names on this list haven't worked for years. Billy Crystal? Is he still alive....?

He must have REALLY cheesed some folks off to still detest him years later....

For myself; I don't particularly care for ANY of the big actors these days. Mostly 'cos I hate seeing the same faces in EVERYTHING! Takes away from the character because you're way too aware of the actor.

I have been real disappointed with Will Ferrell. He's hilarious and I want to like him. Elf was awesome but his other movies just stink.

Angelina Jolie is another one. Again another pretty face but she really hasn't played in a movie that I cared for but constantly gets a ton of attention.

My wife hates Kevin Costner as someone else mentioned. I thought he was great in Water World, the Presidio, and Dances with Wolves (including directing the movie).

I think I might add Jack Nicholson to the list. He has made some movies that I love like the One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Shining, and The Departed to name a few but he also has played some really lame characters but acts like he is the self crowned king of hollywood.

Excellent post. You hit it on the head. Christian Slater should be thrown in for good measure: "Look at me, I sound like Jack Nicholson".

As far as actors are concerned, I really dislike the work of Christopher Walken, Jeff Goldblum, and Nick Cage.

You see, I really feel that masterful acting is an invisible art form (just like really good editing).

When you watch the best actors, they draw you into what they are doing without using gimicks or tricks. They just present a moment in a way that is supremely legitimate and emotionally logical. Marlon Brando comes to mind.

The openning scene of The Godfather is a beautiful example of an understated performance that draws the viewer in. The set design and lighting worked in tandem with Brando's performance to create an understated menace in the character of Vito Corleone. Just the way Brando sometimes used to mumble his dialogue was a way he drew in the viewer.

The cast from the 1979 film "Alien" were all also very good at this type of understated performance.

With Nick Cage, Jeff Goldblum, and certainly with Chris Walken, I always feel like I'm watching a performance. "Look at my acting!! Look at my acting!!"

I find it jarring, distracting, and it effectively pulls me OUT of the drama everytime I see it.
