Sequels don't affect my enjoyment, or rankings, of the original movies. Nor do crappy remakes. Movies, for me at least, live or die based on their own merits.Leave a comment:

it was hard to swallow the vader skywalker connection. but ESB was soooo awesome! RotJ is when
i checked out. tough now i have a nostalgic plce for jedi. prequels pooped on original trilogy, so for people like me (generally) they are detractors. younger crowd (after RotJ) who started with tPM love 'em all.Leave a comment:

- hunger games ( not knowing everything outside of the game is better than what they portrayed in the sequels )
- matrix (same.. its better left up to our imagination )
- first blood ( rambo is about predator like slow methodical killing as an outlaw. not some commando arnold style shoot em up invincible team america dude )
- jaws ( turned a classic into a joke )
- the hangover ( could have been a cult classic )
not considering movies like Ghostbusters, terminator, back to the future since the sequels don't effect anything regardless of the quality.
hunger games books: firs 2 were great. people told me to NOt read the third. it was as nbad as they said. first half was fine. (thrd movie) second half was WHAT?!!! (fourh movie.
I also justify the crap SW prequels by catwgorizing them with evey other fan film.
Batman and Robin caused backlash at Batman Forever which was well received (and I loved BF) to be lumped in that cesspoolLeave a comment:

Death Wish 1974, Death Wish 2 wasn't to bad just not as good as the first, but dang 3-4-5-6 were just HORRIBLE!!!

I don't think any sequel has ever dimmed my love of the first. if the sequel sucks I just ignore it/.....but, as far as crappy sequels go, Highlander. although I did really like End Game.Leave a comment:

It's a good question.
Star Trek the Motion Picture.(just kidding)
I was gonna jump on and say the Matrix sequels, but then I re-read the topic, and decided that I can't really think of any sequels that spread like a cancer to lower my estimation of the original. I mean, pick your franchise, and they all eventually have a stinker; but I feel like I'm able to always hold the original up separately, without considering it ruined because they decided to take another swing and missed. If John Carpenter's Halloween can survive the absolute garbage the franchise has thrown at it, I think pretty much any original classic film is unassailable.
There are some sequels that I think would be really well regarded, if their original film hadn't cast such a long shadow. For example, I think Jaws 2 is a cracking good 70s terror thriller on its own. There's just no way any shark movie could ever match the original Jaws.Leave a comment:
