He seemed to be getting really skinny lately --- maybe he was sick and nobody knew ?

I can't imagine why he would do this...successful career, received numerous honors and awards, gorgeous girlfriend, worth millions and basically got paid to vacation all over the world.

    Just doesn't make sense...

My mom used to love watching his show. I always thought he was funny and very down to earth.

Very sad news. There has been so much misery the last couple years. I hope things turn around soon.

    Sad; already miss you friend-in-burns-and-scars.
Same here...I meet him briefly once and he was very nice and joked how much fun it was to see "culinary graduates" who never worked in a kitchen graduate and get eaten alive by those types of individuals you just described.
A sad day for those who have put up with the nonsense of working in a restaurant as well as the world in general...
    Terrible loss...

I had just seen a preview for this week's episode and not 5 minutes later CNN was announcing his death. I said "Oh my god!" My wife ran into the room asking what was wrong. Anyhow, that was my reaction.

What tragic news. I hope that he can rest in peace, now.

I always liked watching his shows over the years. Last winter, I spent some time binge watching episodes from his various shows and realized the man can tell a story. I'm definitely going to miss his stories from here and there places.
