Sorry, don't mean to be political. I can understand the graduation, but the prom? That's just anti-military prejudice.

I agree with you James but the kid needs to follow the rule and go through the proper channels to protest the rule. As a proud former member of the military I would also want to wear my uniform when I was in.

So if I want to wear my Star Trek uniform or stormtrooper armour to grad I should be allowed to? Lame.

Sounds like he hasn't learnt much in the marines if you ask me....the guy is obviously proud to wear the uniform (and kudos to him for it), But the marines have their own passing out parade with which he can wear his uniform with pride. He should wear the cap and gown as stated in school's instruction (something you need to be able to heed as a military member), as this not only disrespects the school but also the marines...

Thats against military protocol. No other outfit may be orn over a dress uniform

He's most likely a reservist. Even back when I graduated in 1982 we had a few guys like this. They'd join up at 17, got to basic in the summer between jr. & sr. year, then finish out the sr. year and go to AIT/tech school/whatever-you call it. Recruiters used to call it "split training option."

I doubt he's an active duty marine, unless there are new rules or ways of doing things that I don't know about.

Has this rule changed since then? You could certainly sign up and get the wheels in motion while in HS but you didn't get your uniforms until you were physically in Basic Training

It was still like that up to the mid 90's when my nephew joined the Navy.
They let him join at 17, but he couldn't do bootcamp until he was 18 and had his High School diploma.
Before that, all they gave him was a trucker style hat that said US NAVY.

I think this kid is making himself look bad in front of the Corps

    I'm assuming he's 18 or 19 now.

He was only in the Corps for a year-ish

When it's time for him to be stationed, would anyone in their right mind want to be his commanding officer ?

    He's a boat rocker

You watch, the Marines will find a ANY reason to boot him out pretty fast.
