This is a great Post!
Around this time of year when I was kid I would go to Toys R Us and get a new lunchbox each year. Me and my friends loved them. I can still see in my head walking into the Toys R Us where we lived (still there but a mere fragement of what it once was) and seeing rows and rows of lunchboxes every year on display. Ive looked online to find some pics but I haven't found any.
The ones I had were
1st grade-STAR WARS
2nd grade-EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
3rd-FAMOUS MONSTERS
4-KNIGHT RIDER didn't last long at school cause it wasn't "cool" around this time to have lunchbox so I brought in a paper bag. I sold it couple years age on ebay for a nice profit. My mom had makeshift christmas gifts she made on their front porch. About 5 years ago when they moved she was going through stuff to get rid of and for some reason some of the wrapping paper feel off to reveal my long lost knight rider lunchbox in mint condition! When I opened it had some cookie crumbs that had been there for over 25 plus years..Unwrapped another makeshift present and found my theremos in mint condition!Leave a comment:

awesome thread! gosh, I always loved the original Super Friends metal lunchbox. I did not have one, but I was so tickled when Hallmark made a mini-version.
I grew up with the metal Disney's Robin Hood one. I will never forget the first time I droppd it, and thermos came out and smashed the inner glass.

Since I'm the one who started this thread, it's only fair I show you my old lunchbox (not my original, these are just pics).

I ate lunch at home mostly, as my school was a block away from the house. I bugged my mum into getting me a SMDM Canadian plastic lunchbox which I only used a handful of times. Once was because there was an eclipse so we ate at school.Leave a comment:

My favorite lunchbox as a kid was The Bananas Splits one, which ironically was not even metal...it was vinyl...
I still have a little Superman-themed lunchbox collection going, but it only numbers five, with their respective thermos of course...

Because my dad was a big sports fan, I used to have a lot of sports themed lunchboxes.
I had this one...
and this one...
but I only had lunchboxes in 1st and 2nd grade. Starting in 3rd grade, I got brown bag lunches when I didn't qualify for the free lunch program for whatever school I was at
(I did new schools in 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grades, so was never in one place for very long).

Fortunately my school, (a back water K-8th grade school that literally had 9 classrooms) had wonderful lunches ...Leave a comment:

Mikey, I was a hot lunch kid until 4th grade, b/c I couldn't take the crappy lunches anymore. For the first part of 4th grade, I always had a brown bag. My mom just didn't see the point of a lunchbox. She was sure I was gonna lose it, and she'd be wasting her money. My friend got a new lunchbox, so she gave me her old one, a Bobby Sherman lunchbox, and her sister gave me her old plain red thermos. Not that I didn't like Bobby. He was OK, but was kinda dated in 1975, and wouldn't have been my first choice for a lunchbox. Well, I kept up w/ that thing for a whole year. Never lost it or left it somewhere. Then the following summer, we were here in Oakland, visiting my brother, and was shopping at the grocery store, when I saw that glorious tower of lunchboxes that was always on display right before school started every year. I had some of my own money w/ me, and informed my mom I wanted to buy a Bionic Woman lunchbox. I'd shattered the "you'll only lose it", argument, and I couldn't wait to buy one at last. Do you know what my mom said then? "You already have a lunchbox." AAARRRGGGHHH! So alas, Bobby was the only lunchbox I ever had, thus, my obsession w/ lunchboxes. I now have a small collection for me, and all 20 of my 18 inch dolls have a mini lunchbox. I'm currently getting some Snack Pack pudding cans custom-made for them.
I grew up in the 70's but was a "hot lunch" kid.
I did envy all the kids with lunchboxes.
I remember telling my mom I wanted a lunch box so she bought me one at the local second hand store ... It was a Ludwig Von Drake box and thermos .... I had no idea who that was at time so I wasn't impressed and it laid unused.
Today, I wish I still had itLeave a comment:

My mom still has a Star Wars metal lunchbox in her garage filled with tools. It still has a dent on the Mos Eisley side from a fight in 3rd grade. I won.Leave a comment:
