Very interesting to hear - thanks!
I probably will check it out - I do love Peanuts and it's one of the few movies my wife wants to see.

That's exactly how I feel. Life = Disappointment is the equation that best sums up the meaning of Peanuts to me. I love the Peanuts, but my emotional attachment has more to do with finding it comforting because it described the unique feeling of discovering melancholy. It was funny, but I never remember busting a gut laughing. Peanuts, to me, was always more complex and internal.
This move looks more gag focused and my guess is that there's no way it's not going to have a happy ending.Leave a comment:

I'm glad people are saying the pacing and tone were on point with the original.
I actually like the character designs - the way they interpreted the characters in 3D reminds me a bit of the old View-master reels.Leave a comment:

I'm surprised so many associate Peanut with things like "joy" or "innocence". Even as a kid those specials were super bummer time for me. I love Peanuts, don't get me wrong, but those things pretty much reflect a not-so-happy life view, IMO. The whole series is one long exercise in disappointment and consternation.
I just watched the Great Pumpkin with my daughter the other night and I felt exactly like I did when I was kid watching it--a bit blue.
Hahaha

The family and I went yesterday. Whole theater was sold out. They stayed very true to the animated style of our youth even though they were cgi. No modern jokes or "short attention span" type story telling. Was well worth seeing.Leave a comment:

Saw it tonight as well, and I felt the animation was pretty spot on. I'm very pleased how they kept the original style for the characters, it made me happy. The voices were also spot on too. Funny, a guy sitting in front of me with his two daughters was snoring through a fair amount of it, so it didn't keep his attention I guess.Leave a comment:

My wife and I went to see it last night. I was hoping that it would stay true to my memories and I was pleasantly surprised how much of the spirit of those original tv specials they could retain. It's very respectful of the characters and the spirit of what you would remember, with lots of fun callbacks and references. Simple story line, and that works for it. And as was referenced in earlier posts, the CGI is not much of a factor. The scale of the neighborhood and the Snoopy arial scenes is larger to fill the screen, but the characters are true to the Shultz vision I think. Also, they avoided stunt casting of the voices. They used kids who sound very close to the originals.Leave a comment:

Saw the movie today, and it's classic Peanuts. They didn't overly modernize it, like the ads kind of made it look. Great movie with a lot of heart. The art style kept a lot of Schultz's little quirks here and there...it's not your typical 3D animated movie. The kids liked it a lot too. The theater was PACKED.

I'd love to hear a version of "Snoopy Come Home" somehow make it into the movie somewhere...Leave a comment:
