Biggest musical influence as a kid

The Beatles and Kiss for sure. They were the sound track to my childhood. I had stacks of Beatle and Kiss records (In storage now) that I played on my little record player while I played with my toys as a kid in my room.

Those early Sub Pop days were great. Mudhoney, Tad, Nirvana, Supersuckers, The Dwarves and my favorite Big Chief. That must have been something to have been there.

The Supersuckers are one of the greatest rock and roll bands in the world, in my opinion.

My favorite band as a kid was KISS. I'm still a big fan of theirs, too. I'm one of those nerds who knows like far too much trivia and details about them. But they're the main reason I play music now, even though what I play is nothing like KISS! lol

The first music that I heard that really impacted me was Alice Cooper's Love It To Death on 8-track. My aunts and uncles were teens, and I was about 3 or 4, and they'd try to scare me by putting it on. Instead, it fascinated me.

Other notable big influences on me back then was Cheap Trick, Queen, Zeppelin, Yes, Journey, The Beatles, Roy Orbison, and (not afraid to admit this) The Bee Gees! When I was about 9 I saw The Ramones in Rock And Roll High School, and that had a massive impact on me as well, and opened up another musical world to me.

The aforementioned Alice Cooper album, along with The Beatles Revolver and KISS Double Platinum are probably the most important albums I'd ever heard.

I'm glad to see someone out there remembers Big Chief! Great live band. I remember being blown away by seeing The Necros live in the 80's (they played Detroit and Flint a LOT)... Barry is a really great frontman whatever band he's in.

My big influences when I was a kid was 2 big stacks of early British invasion 7 inches my dad had. The Kinks, early Who, the Zombies etc. Probably why I was so attracted to the punk sound in the early 80's. I still can't stand the sound of most really polished arena style bands.

My favorite was the Beatles and they soon became an obsession. I had to have every album by the band and as solo artists. I remember the Vice Principal of my high school called me into his office one day because he had heard that I knew quite a bit about them. He was trying to win a trivia contest and I gave him the answers he needed.

My other favorite was Cat Stevens...another artist that I constantly listened to and still have every one of his albums and songs today. I missed him so much when he changed his name and became Yusef...and it was great when he returned to the music scene a couple years back and released "An Other Cup", his first studio album since 1978s "Back To Earth". It was just like he had never left even though he didn't return to his former name sake for that album.

Other than that I mostly listened to rock bands like Queen, Styx, Boston, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Aerosmith, Heart, etc.

It Was Great ! Don't forget Sound Garden, Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam, GruntTrunk, Green Apple QuickStep, Alice-in-Chains , Screaming Tree's & Temple of the Dog to name a few more.

My mom listened to top 40s and 50s music when it was available on one specific radio station. We also watched a lot of cartoons, with lots of swing from Tom and Jerry. Swing music is what is looping in the van. It was funny to hear my six year old ask me to rewind the song, Let Me Off Uptown by Anita O'Day.

I don't know why but I just love the war time era songs, too, and 1930s early jazz.

The Whole Grunge Movement up Here in the 90's was Huge for me & any teenager at the time. Every Show you saw was Just great. Quite a few local bands never made it into mainstream,.. but were still great as well.
