A little late to this, but I was driving to work after taking my oldest to his probably fourth or fifth day of Kindergarten. I heard it on the radio that a plan had hit one of the towers and I assumed it was an accident with a small plane, like a Cessna.

I was at home, but I was kinda confused as to what had happened at first. I was hoping my friends in NYC were OK, and then I realized what happened. So sad.

I was at the local airport literally boarding our jet, when our pilot got the no-fly order. He told us we had to deplane because "something" was happening. We went inside, turned on the TV and didn't move for the rest of the day.

When we finally did fly again two days later, they kept giving us orders to change our altitude constantly. I assume they wanted to make sure we had control of our plane. It was crazy.

If it did, it would've been a sign that you were apparently being underpaid.

At the time I was serving in the British Army. I'd just finished 4 days guard and was about to go home on leave for a few days. Me and a few of the boys went into town to grab a few things before going home. Returning back to camp we were stopped at the gate and informed to go back to the block and get changed and return to the guard room where we would be informed as to what was going on. On returning back, it was all over the TV and we got the full story before anyone spoke. We were stopped from going home and security state went up. I remember it like it was yesterday. Absolutely devastated.

I just like to say that all those that lost their lives and families are in my thoughts. What an evil world we live in.

I was in High School. I remember this was before smart phones so news traveled a bit slower. It was a surreal moment. But even then, there was a time to mourn and a time to keep moving. We didn't get out of school early or have the next day off.

I was in a pawn shop looking at video games. They had the radio on and I heard about what was happening on the news. I immediately headed home and turned on the TV, following the horrific events as they unfolded for the rest of the day and night.

I was at work and a co-worker asked if I heard about the plane hitting the WTC. I said that its happened before and dismissed it. Shortly, we went on lockdown and started clearing campus.

I got in my car to head to work and the announcer was going nuts about it but not bring very clear. I was unsure what was going on until I got to work and saw the TV. Shortly thereafter the second plane hit.

At the time, I was the sports editor of the local paper and our big story was whether or not the local high school teams and the Southeastern Conference would play football games that weekend. All of our high schools played and the SEC was leaning that way too until the NFL called it's games off. The SEC then followed suit.

The thing I remember most was the uncertainty of it all, and everyone wondering how we would be affected. Also, how everyone feared more attacks were on the way.

Like John, I was in Manhattan, and when the 2nd plane hit, our offices (next to City Hall) bailed over the Brooklyn Bridge, but I remained behind to man the midtown office with my manager.

We stayed until late that evening receiving visits from ash-covered co-workers throughout the day wanting to call home. My manager met his wife and took a ferry home, I caught the first available train.

I remember every vivid detail of every hour that day, but for me, it was the day after that will stick with me for the rest of my life.

People tend to say "Never Forget"...for those that were there...We can't Forget.

I was at work, in Manhattan, 6 blocks or so away, on the 45th floor, watching it live. When the 2nd plane hit it sent a shock-wave which shook our building's windows like jello. Then everyone ran for eht exits.

I was at work. But we had radios on around the office when the news started. Surprisingly we didn't have a working tv in the building so I went home and got a small portable and put it in the break room. The whole office watched it the rest of the day.

I was just walking into work in central Ohio. We had CNBC on, and watched it all unfold. Within the previous two weeks, the wife and I had just learned that she was pregnant with our first. I really wondered what kind of a world we were bringing him into. Thank you to our troops and first responders for keeping us safe.

Woke to a frantic phone call from a dear friend back east with siblings dodging glass, shrapnel and fireballs in the Financial District. He was hysterical and needed some quick advice/help.

Like many, turned on the TV; watched the rest play out *live* while the phone went crazy and country cried… it was surreal and difficult to be in California as a fairly new resident with many friends and family members across the country experiencing madness. Got back to NYC in mid-2002 as I just had to see it for myself and touch base with people I cared about. Collectively mourned with hundreds of others at the church gates and at Battery Park. ****ing mess of things that still stings.
