So much for boxing being dead...
MMA and pro wrestling ppv sales don't even come close to these numbers.
For example...the last UFC event got 245,000 PPV sales...so much for MMA overtaking boxing, lol.
Wrestlemania 29 fared a lot better than the UFC...1,048,000 sales...but that's still less than half of Mayweather/Canelo 2.2 million sales.
Boxing is still very much alive.

Duran vs Barkley is my all time favorite fight. LOL. I can still hear Al Bearnstein calling the action.Leave a comment:

It was amazing, Duran was 37 years old and beat the middleweight champion of the world, and Iran Barkeley KOd Hearns, so go figure, lol.Leave a comment:

Yeah I loved watching that Barkley fight. Duran really came into that fight in shape and just picked Barkley apart.Leave a comment:

Heck, he went all the way up to middleweight and beat the likes of title holders Davey Moore and Iran Barkley...Duran was legendary indeed.Last edited by Hector; Sep 15, '13, 7:15 PM.Leave a comment:

Tommy did get hit a lot, and by bigger and bulkier fighters, he suffered some bad KOs, no doubt.
Credit to Mayweather though, he doesn't get hit much, so props to him.
Doesn't change my take on Mayweather vs Hearns....Hearns too big and powerful for Mayweather.Last edited by Hector; Sep 15, '13, 7:26 PM.Leave a comment:

yeah but remember Duran at 5'7" started out as a lightweightStill my all time favorite boxer. Liked Hearns too and he was just plain scary at times but growing up, Duran was one of my idols!

I thought athletes got bigger over time, better nutrition, training, supplements (some very shady), and so on.
Well, in the welterweight division, they are getting smaller, lol.
Mind you, all the following weighing in at 147 pounds, the welterweight limit:
Sugar Ray Robinson...5' 11"
Sugar Ray Leonard...5' 10"
Tommy Hearns...6' 1"
The following finally go down to near Floyd Mayweather height (5' 8")...
Roberto Duran...5' 7"
Julio Cesar Chavez...5' 7"
Saul Canelo Alvarez...5' 7"
Imagine Mayweather at welterweight against Hearns...it would've gone like this...
Poor Duran, he was too pudgy and untrained for that fight, he didn't know what hit him, and ironically, that was the ONLY time Duran ever lost by KO...

Check this fight between Mayweather and Jose Luis Castillo (a poorman's Chavez)...this is the one fight were Mayweather lost according to most observers...it was not a walk in the park for the pretty boy...
The official scorecard from the judges was a "easy" victory for Mayweather...but HBO's judge Harold Lederman scored the bout 115-111 for Castillo. But the scorecards read (a laughable): 116-111, 115-111 and 115-111 in favor of Floyd.
Article on the fight:
However...they had a rematch, and Mayweather clearly won that one...so props to him for that one.Last edited by Hector; Sep 15, '13, 5:03 PM.Leave a comment:

That's how Mayweather wins, lol.
Mayweather is good, but hardly the best ever...the dude lacks power...imagine him against the likes of prime Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, Roberto Duran, and against a prime Julio Cesar Chavez at lightweight...Mayweather would've gotten mauled by all of them.
It just irritates me to no end when he keeps yapping that he's the best ever...what a crock of crap, the dude is delusional, lol.
As for Canelo...it just showed how green he is...he still has a way to go...but he's very young, he will improve with experience...he's gonna be a solid fighter for years to come.Leave a comment:
