Jerry, Keith, and Mets have something to cheer about...

I'm not trying to start any flame war like Kingdom is suggesting. All I am saying is that Yankee fans will never give a team like the Mets any credit. Whether the Mets beat the Yanks 9 - 4 or 2 - 1. The fact of the matter is the Yanks were supposed to beat the Mets...and it didn't happen.

Well, yes. There's no question that the Yankees should be mortified that they lost 4 to the Mets. More so that they scored only one run in three of those games and the one game they should have lost, the Harvey game, their pitcher actually outpitched him and they still lost. Not even the most die hard Met fan is saying this is going to spark a run to October because even the owner of the team acknowledged that they aren't going anywhere this year earlier in the week. That's why I'm saying Met fans should enjoy this for what it is. They stole the first two games from the Yankees and beat them soundly in the the next two and for a potential playoff team like the Yankees they should be embarrased to lose four in a row against any club that is trying not to finish last in their division. If it were the other way around though, the Mets would have accepted their fate and the Yankees and their fans wouldn't be making a bid deal about it. The series was already a sucess for the Mets by the time they won those first two games. And that's the thing with the cross town rivalry, untill the Mets get good, it's a bigger deal for them than it is the Yankees.

On a side note, Fridays where I work is sort of a dress down day and several of my coworkers are wearing Met jerseys today. What's odd about it is that, Ive know many of them for quite some time and had no idea they were Met fans. It's like they dusted off their jerseys because the just sweept the Yankees but wouldn't have been caught dead in them prior to the series. I mean, we have the same dress down every Friday but outside of one guy here, no one was wearing Mets apparel last week or any time before.

I gotta say I've been to a bunch of major league parks to watch the Yankees as the visiting team and the most obnoxious fans as a whole are the ones I encounter at Chittyfield. Now I say as a whole because the worst I ever had it was from one drunken idiot in Baltimore who started taunting my, at the time five year old son, and the guy had to be removed. Outside of that one time, Camden Yards has been great and it plays like Yankee Stadium South but I swear going to Queens in an NYY Jersey is worse than going to Boston in one.

And yes, not having your A team out there is a huge deal. They're playing the back-ups to the back-ups. Last year, half the time when the Yankees beat the Sox, they weren't playing against Bostons Major League team, they were playing again anyone they could call up from AAA and while it was nice to beat them, it wasn't them same as when Pedroia or Ortiz was in the line-up. Right now, the Yankees don't have their play-off caliber team and have been decimated by injuries of historical proportions. It's not just A-Rod and Jeter either. First off, no one, especially the Yankee brass, were counting on A-Rod this year. They're secretly hoping he never plays another game for them in his life. Meanwhile Jeter hasn't been here all year, so as much as he's important to the team, he's been a complete non factor in 2013. It's guys like Granderson they were relying on who got hurt twice, Tex who, as a switch hitter, breaks up the lefties, Nunez who was supposed to be a solid player. The old saying is your bench is only good until you have to play them and the Yankees are running out bench players, kids, and journeymen so you gotta look at it like that.

I love it when Yankee fans get defensive....here's where the argument of the Yankees not having their "A" players out there doesn't hold water. The Mets didn't have their "A" players on the field tonight either...and they still beat the Yankees. Wrecker the catcher is a career minor leaguer...so was Quintinia and Turner. Also, when these so called "B" team guys had the Yankees in first place this year they were never considered "B" teamers. It's "what happens when you become a Yankee...you become a winning ballplayer" That's all a load of crap. Yankees and their fans should be really thinking about the fact that they just lost to a "loser" last place team like the Mets and that they have to face Boston who are ahead of them in the standings this weekend. The switch is not gonna flick on immediately when Texiera and Pettite come back this weekend. The Yanks are an aging team that really has nothing left in their farm system. I can't brag about the Mets farm system as far as developing every day players...cause they don't have any everyday young players in their system right now except for Darnaud who can't stay healthy. But the fact is the Yanks better start re-developing their system because Jeter and ARod are almost at the end of their careers and they have no one to back them up. Texiera isn't a spring chicken anymore either. And hasn't CC lost about 4 or 5 miles off the fastball. I can tell you Joba impressed me tonight. He looked like the old Joba...that's all that impressed me tonight. If "The Boss" was still alive you know that there would be a few Yankees that played tonight that wouldn't be there tomorrow.

I don't hate the Yankees...but I do despise the fan base. Give the Mets SOME credit...the LOWLY LAST PLACE METS beat the 27 WORLD SERIES CHAMPION Yankees. Four game sweep. Done.

I don't hit any panic buttons in May....no contending team does...it's may. Yanks were flat all week. one game was a bit of a blow out but other than that,all games were close. I'm already looking ahead to the Boston series....teams go into funks during the season it happens......you panic in September and win championships in October not in May....

Oh i agree, that's why I said "maybe" and I wasn't referring to me,because I always think the Yankees can pull it out. "At any moment a great moment" and "We play today we win today" and all that. I meant the higher-ups in the Bronx. You saw what they did with Wells right at the end of Spring Training. Now that move has worked out but if you remember, at the time the front office was getting killed for that signing. I also think it would depend on how many runs they score against the Sox this weekend too. If they get shut out and post two one run games, it's gonna look like they can't hit all of a sudden and you never know how the organization will react to something like that. An 8 game loosing streak isn't good any time of the year. To go from one game to five games out in a weekend would hurt regardless of what time of year it is but yeah, I don't really pay attention to the standings until after the All-Star break. Every game you loose now is one you can't win later. so right now winning series is the key. Tex and Youlk come back tomorrow and Pettitte on Monday so I myself am not worried.

That's just me being cynical. Of course I have my Reds, but until they prove they can beat good teams and not just club the bad teams like harp seals, they are semi-pro in my eyes. The Yankees have a tradition and legacy that cannot be touched by any other MLB team. It's just strange that literally down the street are the polar opposite Mets.

I think the Cardinals have a Great history just with less championships......I like the Reds shame they haven't been dominate like they were in the 70's

I just find it comical that there is such a wide berth and such divisiveness between major league teams that are ten miles apart. I'm still waiting for one ML team here...

I love watching Mets and Yankees fans going at it. It's like watching Nick Nolte and Gary Busey putting a bicycle together without instructions for Christmas morning. I got nothin particularly great here with the local team and no real rivalries to speak of, so I enjoy this stuff and reading the Damien/Hector wars. I do agree about the HOF, though. Jeter is in the top two SS I've ever seen and Rivera redefined the closer position. Both good guys, both deserving of first ballot enshrinement.

I prefer, Boston Fans.....since they actually won two World Series and Beat the **** out of us to get there they earned my respect. Mets haven't won **** in 26 years and we beat the tar out of them in 2000 as far as I'm concerned mets fans got nothing and NO respect from me....They are an embarrassing New York team.....

I said it before, the Mets are running out their A team and the Yankees are running out the D team. Who pitched for the Yankees tonight? They're playing with a skeleton crew. The Yankees are still 7 games over 500 and 1 behind for first while the Mets are 7 down and 10 out of first. It's just not comparable. The Mets can crow about this all they want and sure, this will follow them around all season but they'll get over it and once the reinforcements show up, they should be alright. Maybe hit the panic button if they get swept by the Sox. For the Mets though between this and the All-Star Game, that's their season. Outside of that, maybe Harvey can pitch a no/no or someone hit for the cycle in a game but after the second week in July the Mets are looking forward to 2014 so they gotta take the joy where it comes. For the Yankees, the real rivalry games start tomorrow.
