I won i piece of art on ebay and got it in, over a year later a seller posted the same image for sale. since it was up there i figured it was something i didn't get.
I won the 2nd auction but the seller couldn't find the art to send me. I doubled checked my art collection and sure enough i already did own it and he did sell it to me before
. He cancelled the whole thing through ebay and hasn't listed it again.

I haven't done this yet with stuff I care about - I think I've come close though. I HAVE done this with groceries.

I was recently helping my parents move and I found at least 6 different DVDs of "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly" stored in different random places in my dads stuff. Most were not even opened. They were all cheapie bin versions - so I think he re-buys it every other time he goes to Walmart.

A couple of times. I bought a Hardy Boys t-shirt from Ebay, only to realize I already had it. Then once I bought a Battlestar Galatica comic novel from a used book store. Then I bought 3 Marvel Battlestar Galatica comic books, only to find out they were the same thing!

I'm not claiming to have the best memory in the world, far from it, but at least I seem to have a pretty good handle on what I already own as far as toys, books, comics, DVDs and CDs go, I've never re-bought one accidentally...yet.

I don't think I ever had, but I've had to think really hard when out g-saling sometimes. At least not with toys. I DOES happen more frequently with DVDs.

I'm waaaay to much of a databaser freak for that to happen (often). In fact, part of the fun of the toy is finding out every tiny thing about it I can once I get it home. And how many more of the series I must have.

I own two copies of Attack of the Clones and Schoolhouse Rock on DVD, and I used to do it a lot with books and comics.

It has all the makings of a 21st century Seinfeld episode. Also makes me what else is perpetually floating around on ebay. It's mostly toys it bet...

Happens to me more than I'd like when buying back issue comics. The worst part? I have "need" list designed to combat this very thing, but sometimes I forget to cross things off!

I've done it with my comics before myself. Around 4 or 5 times. Oops. Now I carry around a computer print out of my want list(s) in a blue binder with me to conventions/the comic shop.

Not that often, but oddly enough just last night I couldn't find a DVD. I knew I had bought it before, but it was nowhere to be found in my DVDs. I went over each one for a long time. No dice.

Went on Amazon to buy a new one. Then just by luck, looked over at the DVD shelves by chance, and there it was. How I missed it the other 15 times I looked over the DVDs, I don't know. But I was THAT close to ordering a copy of a DVD that was 3 feet away from me.

I've done this frequently with books--I'm always forgetting which Bantam Doc Savage reprints I have.

I did it recently with the Defenders Essentials 3. Looked through it and couldn't remember reading it but when I got home there it was.

If I don't have my spreadsheet I'm bound to pick up duplicate comics. Have done it three or four times now. I just give the extras to my nephew.

I do that quite often, especially with books. Usually though, I'm happy to find I've found a better copy, like you said an upgrade.
