I've been thinking about video game stores that are gone too. Places Like Electronic Boutique,Funco Land and Rhino's which use to be owned by Blockbuster. The last two were great places to buy games for older systems.

^I remember Thornbury's in Turfland Mall in Lexington. They later closed and reopened as a Kay-Bee.

The most iconic for me had more of a local presence. It was called Thornbury's Toys. They had a monkey that road a bicycle on the sign. You can make it out on the photo below. They always carried plenty of Megos and this store picture below is where I picked up my KISS figures. Still boxed.

And soon... Zellers, when Target retires the banner from Canadian retail.
They just bought some (not all) locations, they never bought the company itself. Zellers is just fading away, my aunt's wife is right now readying for retirement.

    Canada no longer has:

    KMart
    Kresge
    Woolco
    Woolworth
    Simpson's
    Eatons
    Consumers Distributing
    Shop Rite
    Towers
    Zellers

    Dominion Playworld
    Pinocchio toys

    Ponderosa
    Dunkin Donuts
    Mr Donut
    Olive Garden

    Good Post!
    Some ones I remember are
    MURPHYS MART
    BEST
    CALDOR
GINOS' (they just reopened them in baltimore area)
    WOOLWORTHS
CHILDS WORD (were I got many underoos)
LISTENING BOOTH (were I got my records that I still have to this day)
TOYS R US (Yes I know there still around but they suck major nowdays and are dead to me)
    STEWART'S (Baltimore department store)
TOYTOWN (This place was heaven for me as kid in the late 70's early 80's. Was the size of a foodstore and had EVERY toy. It put Toys R Us to shame. if there was a place I could go in a time machine it would be there.)
    A N P
    VALUE FOOD
KAY BEE ( Miss that store alot)

Theres so many more I could type all day. What I miss the most is the charm of those stores. every store they had was diffrent from the other one. Nowdays all stores, malls, shopping centers look the same ..at least in my opnion.

Man, I miss getting 15 cent ice-cream cones from there. Is Two Guys still around? I remember the TV ad. Sam Goody's, Tower Records, (when they sold records!), Sambo's restaurant. May's Department store, and Alexanders. Clothes Time. Palisades Amusement park. Drive-in movie theatres. Met Foods, Ernie's, Food-o-Rama.
A&P is still around....kind of. They're the parent company of Pathmark now.

I think my mom got her sewing machine from that store!

And I remember Beefsteak Charlie's! I went to dinner there twice.

    H&M Lamston's.

Independent Toy stores. There was a great one up on 106th street in Manhattan. I can't remember the name of it, but it was there for YEARS before they closed.

The Singer Sewing Machine Store on 86th street in Manhattan. Had great prices in a teeny place, with a lot of models to choose from. They closed and became an electronics store!

I miss Roy Rogers restaurants, they had great fried chicken, although I hated their iced tea, as it was completely unsweetened.

Beefsteak Charlie's restaurant; I always wanted to go there eventually, but they closed when I was around seventeen.

Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips; never got a chance to taste them.

Circus world was a Mecca for kids. I've still got a Hulk finger puppet I got there when I was a kid. We've still got a Godfathers pizza. I wouldn't have made it through undergraduate school without their buffet. They've still even got arcade games in the back.
