ok, thanks. My 17 year old was going to fix it, but kept dragging his feet so my wife took it into her own hands to fix. By the time I looked at it, the damage was done. I will find out if they have given up or just put it off for a while.

hmmm...never been in one of those before.
I'd prefer taking it apart myself so I know how it goes back together - but if ya send it to me, I can at least look at it; give it a whirl...
no warranty expressed or implied though

I'll keep you in mind. Haven't dropped mine yet. Although I now have the iPad3. But I still have a 2 I use at work

iPad2 repair - I may be your guy.

Just putting this out there for y'all -

I work for a school district in their I.T department.
I have spearheaded our deployment of iPads (700+ so far) to Students and Staff.

I've had a dozen dropped so far over the past year, breaking the glass.
I have found a reliable vendor for the digitizer glass and work has let me buy whatever tools I need to perform such a repair.

I am getting pretty decent and quick at doing the repair - got one open the other day to replace a failed LCD screen, and I did so without breaking the OEM digitizer glass.

If you have a second gen iPad (ipad2) with glass damage and you want to fix it; but were unsure how to go about doing so, I may be able to help you out.

glass and labor, you'd be looking at $100-$125 plus your cost of shipping the device to me.
Working...
