    The BEATLES Reunion...of sorts

So Paul McCartney's son, James, wants to get the Beatles kids together and form a band. I dunno but this seems like a bad idea all around. All of them are well into their 30's so they're not exactly kids and if they play new material it will get compared to the superior material of their parents. If they play their Dads hits, it'll come off as goofy. Kind of a no-win situation but I'm sure if it happens someone will pay to see it. Kind of like how you can go see Journey live these days except instead of Steve Perry, you get a 20 year old karaoke singer. (I honestly can't believe they get away with that!) It's pretty funny that Ringo's kid is the most successful of the lot these days considering his father was always considered the least talented of the Fab Four. I know you can say Julian & Sean are pretty successful. Sure they had a pretty good run for a while (in the 80's) but Zak is by far the most respected musician of the group today..which is probably why he doesn't want to do it! Thoughts?

This may have been a "cute" idea if they were like 8-12 years old, but it still would have been a horrible idea. This? this actually makes my blood boil. Totally hacks of the worst kind.

I think this is a bad idea as well...If they got together as a group and did an album and toured, and did not do any of the Beatles tunes...or even associate themselves with the Beatles it might be alright if the music was good. They could even get George Martin to produce them...but to try a Beatles "franchise" group is crazy...NEVER WORK!! The only band I could ever see this happening to would be KISS...as they have proved in the past...anyone can wear the make-up.

While I don't think its all that great of an idea it would be interesting to see if nothing more than a novelty act. Beats the heck out of impersonators which really get on my nerves.

The most interesting aspect for me would be to see what kind of influence the parent had on the child considering the amazing heights that the Beatles rose to (both as a group and solo). Plus what kind of chemistry would these guys have considering that they all seem to be born way past the Beatle-mania era. I also would be curious as to what their music would sound like / be influenced by since a career in music for them really wasn't that difficult an option. For example say your Dad was a plumber, it would be easier for your to become a plumber. Now while these guys are at a disadvantage considering the heights their fathers attained the doors to the music industry are much easier to open. Plus with the bank roll the grew up with the lessons, training and equipment needed were a heckuva lot easier to come by than even their fathers had.

But in the end natural talent is impossible to manufacture.

Dang now I really want to see what this would sound like.

I saw RAIN on Broadway last year and liked it so much I went back three weeks later to see it again. It's probably the closest thing I'll ever get to a Beatles concert. What got me though was in the lobby they were selling Rain's albums on CD. Who would buy that or want to listen to that when you you know, listen to the Beatles? I also saw The Music Box a few times and they recreate the Peter Gabriel Genesis shows from the 70's. Holy crap was that amazing! On the flip side, I went to see a group once called Almost Queen and left half way through the set they were so bad. I get the over bands from acts you can't see anymore so long as it's done right but I do not see the point to impersonation band for acts that are still touring today like Ant's Marching (Dave Matthews) Bad Medicine (Bon Jovi) & The B Street Band (Bruce Springsteen). Just go see the real thing!

I read this the other day and just laughed at the remarks by McCartney's son. He was hoping this incarnation could be BETTER than the original, but if not, he would like to 'at least' be as good....? Sorry, but sharing DNA doesn't mean a thing when it comes to offering the same kind of music the Beatles did. They changed the entire musical culture. And this naive kid thinks he could 'at least' be that good? That boy is delusional. It would be an insult at best.
