Did I say I resented kickball? I HATE IT!!

Loved kickball. When we got older, our gym teachers made the bases the corners of the gym, and not just the 1/2 court perimeter. Every now and then I'll be sitting at work and wish I could have gym class or recess.

As a kid, I grew to resent kickball. I'm not very good at sports anyway, but that wasn't the reason. This began in 4th grade.

In grade school, we had gym once a week, and always shared the gym w/ another class. in 4th grade it was Miss Walden's class. Everyone thought Miss Walden was a man in drag. She may have been undergoing a sex change at this time, but I swear she was a football player in a wig, dress, and orthopedic shoes. She was like a kickball NAZI. Every flipping week, we had to play kickball b/c she wanted to. We asked our teacher, Mrs. Weissman to talk to her and tell her that we get to pick a game sometimes too, but she never did. I think she was afraid of Miss Walden. So most of us, (myself included) began boycotting gym class. I'd delibrately wear shoes that couldn't be on the gym floor so the drag queen would make me sit out. I still got a G (for good) in Gym b/c Mrs. Weissman wasn't going to penalize anyone for that. She knew how we felt. I didn't come to terms w/ my resentment until my adult life when I was working w/ different after school groups. (But I was always the pitcher, and made the kids run!)

    *sigh* Sad, isn't it?

Kickball was THE GAME to play (when not playing badminton).

We used to play in a gravel parking lot. And not the small round safe pebbles, instead the LARGE walnut sized pieces with multiple knife sharp edges. So if you fell when running, it was dangerous. It was a bloody sport.

Which made it all the more fun.

Seattle has Underdog Sports Leagues and one of them is Kickball. I think it's been almost 15 years since they been around. Other sports league are Bocce, Bowling, Dodgeball, Flag Football, Mini Golf, Softball and Volleyball. There is also a Disc league aka Frisbee. Very hard core.

It's funny to see this thread. Recently I was thinking about playing kickball as a kid and how much fun it was - even though I wasn't very good.

Me To! I remember our neighborhood and the ones around us would play kickball in the street. And I too remember yelling "car!" when one would come by. In elementary school everyday at recess there was a kickball game. Somedays I played and some I didn't.
Sad cause nowdays where I Live I NEVER see kids playing kickball or going outside for that matter.
