Looks like this is starting to heat up. Apparently, Peyton Manning is making it clear he has no intent to retire and that his progress is right on track as expected. If he truly is healthy and the Colts let him go; I think the Redskins will be on a short list of teams stumbling over themselves to grab him.

On Mike & Mike this morning they said the Cardinals would make that short list as well. It would be interesting to see what teams are willing to offer him. One thing is for sure. If his arm actually heals back in full and he returns to form, that Colt's owner won't be able to find a small enough corner to hide in from the fans.

as a huge Colts fan and manning fan, it would be ashame to see him go to another team, I would rather see him retire then go to another team. :(

I think the biggest decision is could a hit cause life changing injuries? If that's the case, hang it up and call it a career. 40 years old and in a wheel chair for life is no way to be after earning the kind of $$ he has. I know the competitive juices are tough to subside but your kids shouldn't have to see that if it's avoidable. I don't see him coaching. You rarely see it with the players that were high money figures. The best coaches always seem to be the ones that really needed to go the extra mile to be good players. I can't remember one superstar that became even a halfway decent coach. Most of the current coaches make more money as coaches than they ever did as players.

Unfortunately, I saw the word 'atrophy' in a few articles about Manning today. As a wrestling fan, I then think of Paul Orndorff & Arn Anderson, who had similar nerve issues in an arm. Not worth it. I love watching Manning play, but I hope he hangs it up.

He's had a career like few have had . . . . I would think he could walk away with his head held high and not risk further damage. If anyone could move on to coaching right away it's this guy. I hope he pursues that avenue.

I don't put a lot of stock in the Yahoo article. I recall shortly after he started throwing again at least one of his receivers said he had some zip on the ball. In the ESPN interview they've been running all day he is pretty adamant that he's making appropriate progress.

As for risking being crippled, that isn't even supposed to be a consideration with the surgery he had. According to the doctors he's at no greater risk than he was pre-surgery. I'm still holding out hope.

My best friend had surgery to his neck where they installed a metal plate. I can't believe Payton would even consider playing again with all the risk he would take.


I think he is an all time great QB and future HOFer for sure. I have no doubts that it kills him not playing but for his sake I really hope he calls it quits.

It's got nothing to do with Sanchez...I'm talking about Manning's best interest...playing with nerve damage on his throwing arm is really risking it...he could get easily crippled out there.
