Somewhat. They don't have the same negative effects that refined, processed sugars do, but they will add up over time. Yes, fruits have quite a bit of nutrients. I just am avoiding anything like that. I won't even eat a sugar-free item like candy or a pastry. It's too close to the real thing, so I'll just steer clear of that as well.

I was just talking to BK for a while and the first thing he mentioned was how much different I sounded on the phone. If that isn't proof that I'm on the right road I don't know what could be.

That's awesome Scott. My wife is really good about keeping things healthy at our house, but I have little willpower when I go out to lunch during the work week.

Congrats Scott keep up the good work.....

I have my own business now and am on the road all day so eating healthy is actually easier then I thought....I pack a cooler from the night before and eat nothing but protien and drink water! What you said about carbs is spot on, I also stay away from anything processed.

So glad your feeling better and your energy level and general outlook is improving, I more then any one still remember the comfort food I would consume knowing it was killing me and then going thru the depression and guilt afterwards for consuming it. After about 6 months of this destructive cycle I turned it around and have never looked back....... Again, keep up the good work!

It's like you're describing me. I have great cholesterol, but my knees are shot and as soon as I get home from work, I pass out for about 45 minutes. I can actually lose weight easy if I exercise, but that involves me getting off my butt and I've turned much, much lazier in the past five years.

I'm just done with feeling bad. My wife's health is failing again, and I cannot be of any use to her if I myself feel horrible. I'm tired of sore knees, tight pants, not being able to reach over and pick something off the ground and wanting to take a nap as soon as I get home. I completely 100 percent did this to myself and I have to take responsibility and undo the damage no matter how painful or difficult. After another week or so I'll check my sugar level again and see how that's working out.

The one thing I have going for me is cholsterol. Even at my heaviest, my levels were very much normal. I could eat a stick of butter and not have the levels increase. So...bring on the bacon, the greatest food ever invented.

What killed me in 2011 is a Dunkin Donuts opening across the street from my store. I became addicted to their bismarks. Dear god, that's a tasty treat. Imagine filling a chocolate frosted donut with buttercream cake icing. I just stopped cold on all of it. My only sugar intake comes from ketchup and BBQ sauce with my chicken/hamburger served on wheat buns. That's it. Potatoes are out too. No fries, chips or baked. I am taking the stance that they are poison and counter to my goals.

    Congrats Scott.
I myself, do not eat much of that Crap to begin with , and try to always have some grasp of what I should be eating, given my job proffession and how physical it can be. I can tell when I eat Crap ..., then try and Work.

Hi. My name is Chris, and I have Type 2 diabetes. Seems like we can start a 12 step program right here. We can all encourage each other to eat right and live more healthy. I am actually excited about the extra miles I will be walking/working each week. Last year I dropped 100 pounds. Put back on 40. Need to take it serious again.....

The first rule of this all is not not drink your daily allotment of calories. Lots of meat and protein. Brown rice is pretty good depending on what it's served with or in. Wheat pasta can be fairly nasty especially with red sauce. It's great with alfredo. White bread, pasta and white rice break down in the body as sugar.

Even if you're not a total fatass like me, anyone can benefit from this kind of diet. I promise you if you try this for a week, just one week, you'll feel the immediate difference.

I am lucky my wife is as dedicated to a good diet as i am. Mainly cause she cooks 90% of what we eat. And soda was the first thing my doctor made me give up. Believe it or not Gatorade was the 2nd. She does allow me to drink the G2 gatorade and i cant even tell the difference now. But i was drinking almost a 2 liter of sunkist a day. Soda is the devil.

Good for you guys. I have it, too, and I just don't cook. I really need to start. I pretty much live on pasta, even though I know it's not the right thing. I need to get with it, but just wanted to give you guys a big thumbs-up in support for you guys fighting the good fight.

Tonight was chili and peanut butter sandwiches and a couple Bud Lights. The bachelor life is pretty glamorous, let me tell you.

Good for both of you. I completely empathize, I was also diagnosed nearly two years ago and have tried to adjust my diet accordingly. I've cut out pop (except for one daily diet root beer) and that alone made a big difference. I almost never touch candy, donuts, etc but the white rice is tricky, my wife being Japanese and all. But I'm starting to get used to brown rice instead. My goals this year is to cut down on alcohol (lots of sugar in that!) and more exercise. That should help a lot too.
