Quiet Riot fires new singer while he's having brain surgery

IMO Quiet Riot is done without Kevin. I understand the 'band' isn't just one member however having been in numerous bands (much smaller scale of course) when you loose someone such as Kevin or Carlos Cavazo it comes time to move on. I have no beef or bone against Frankie but he should leave Quiet Riot in the realm of royalty checks and licensing agreements. He is a talented enough fellow (obviously, he made it once right?) that perhaps its time for him to start over with a new band and play the old QR hits as a novelty.

I 100% agree with you. In fact, after Kevin Dubrow had died I had them long and buried with the band. Frankie even announced that without Kevin there is no more Quiet Riot but then Frankie heard my friend Mark Huff who was playing in a Van Halen Tribute band called 5150. It was a fat chance and luck that Frankie was there and heard his amazing pipes. I guess something clicked and Mark reminded him a lot of Kevin and they started talking.

So Mark was flown out to where Frankie (and Quiet Riot) used to practice. Mark was really nervous but I knew he could do it. He did his home work well and he nailed the job.

Of course when you know a few people you get the opportunity to have my band Fatal Agenda open for Quiet Riot. That was a fun night! Then I got to hear my friend Mark nail all of Kevin's songs. You would have to goto Youtube and listen to a good video that was recorded in HD to believe me and even that doesn't do Mark justice.

Afterwards Mark's fan base just went insanely wild when people heard my friend nail all these Quiet Riot songs. It was even nice of Mark to tell me he thought I was a great singer (which I know he was just being courteous lol).

Opening for Quiet Riot is an experience that I'll never forget (even though it wasn't Kevin, Carlos and Rudy) but who cared at that moment. I even brought my mother along that night. She had the time of her life. I have one of those "younger mothers" that had given birth to me when she was seventeen. So the guys from Quiet Riot are about her age. Meeting them was an expirence for her and I was pleased to finally present something to my mother that was "up and close" instead of 40 thousand miles away at a Bon Jovi concert with binoculars. (Nothing beats having your Mom proud of you. Call me a sissy boy, I don't care. It was a great night!)

Don't get me wrong, I was one of those kids who idolized Kevin Dubrow. I got back stage at the Beloit River festival and met Kevin Dubrow when he was alive and he was gracious and thankful for all the nice things I said to him about the posters on my wall growing up...etc. When he died, I thought Quiet Riot was done.....but never say never when you have a guy like Mark singing.

Frankie Banali is the type of guy who lives on the road. His money comes in when he is playing. That is his gig and when my friend Mark was down for a few months of brain surgery, it was simple. Frankie was a dick and figured there are other people that could 'do the job' and he sent him a certified letter saying, "Thank you but Quiet Riot no longer needs your services."

I mean, come on. Right when you're having your head shaved to have a major operation on your brain? What a classless jack off.
Frankie could have gotten a replacement or someone to fill in (Paul Shortino?) but he chose just to ditch him, replace him and get back on the road.
The singer Frankie picked as a replacement is Keith St. James formerly of Montrose. I do not think this guy has the power to pull this off.

As JimMegos up there was saying he was an old school original Quiet Riot guy. Frankie had a guy who could duplicate that old school sound and he just wasn't happy. If it's not Frankie's way it's the highway and I find that really sad because I used to idolize that guy growing up. I had my drum set all set up and banged out the first three Quiet Riot albums like I was Frankie Banali and now that just totally crushes the kid that was in me.


So yeah, I do agree agree with you jimsmegos. The Quiet Riot band is or was Kevin Dubrow, Carlos Cavazo,Rudy Sarzo or Chuck Wright on bass...doesn't matter there and the infamous Frankie Banali the self-righteous business man and apparent "band owner" of Quiet Riot.

What dogs. Sounds like the band got their ice cold blood from KISS. Look at the people they have let go when those members needed them the most - Mark St John and Eric Carr.

My son had brain surgery a few years ago and its a really bad surgery to go threw. What a bunch of jerks. They will never be on my list of music to play again. Hope for a speedy recovery .

I wonder about the "legal" aspect of things.
America is over-run with laywers and I could totally see someone "legal" putting the band in the position of firing him.
It's business. It happens all the time. People get sick, lose their job..some sue..some win.
I am KISS fan at heart. I think something very similar went down when Eric Carr was in the hospital, then passed away short time later.
Sadly, it's not always about the human..it's about the money machine.

Hope he makes a full recovery and rocks forever.

This may sound cold but I'm just spouting my opinion. I loved Quiet Riot. They are actually one of my biggest influences as both a musician and live entertainer. Your friend deserved the shot he got but sadly the band he joined was trying to be more than what made them great... a band and not an industry.

While I can't predict the future I can pretty safely say that your pal will get back into the game after he's healed and ready and easily land a new gig. Frankie's Quiet Riot however I fear won' be so lucky. At best they will open for your pals NEW band once its formed.

So long Quiet Riot. You have been and will continue to be missed.

That is just down right friggin cold! At least give the man time to recover from his surgery. Like he really needs that bad news going in to a potential life threatening surgery. As if that was not bad enough.

I really did like Quiet Riot back in the 80's and still do not mind hearing their hits every now and then today. That definitely will change the way I think about them in the future.

I haven't heard QR in a while--thought Paul Shortino from Rough Cutt was still singing for them, in fact--but this is nonsense behavior. I expected better from Frankie Banali. Hope Mark's doing well and gets a better gig with some dudes that don't have their heads up their behinds.

I saw Quiet Riot in a biker bar in Missoula Montana in the mid 90s when I was going to college.

They were about an hour and a half late claiming the U-haul broke down! The guitarist was so baked he had a hard time keeping up with the songs!

But, I'm still glad I can claim QR as one of the bands I have seen live.

Right, like I told him get ready to have about five or six national acts knocking on your door when you heal up. You have to hear Mark sing to believe me, his voice is amazing and one of the rare vocalists you can find in this style of musci.

That is a crap thing to do. He will bounce back and move on to bigger and better things. You just can't treat someone that way. Being he has a great name wish him well for me.
