Television advertising is out of control.

I'm all for smaller goverment, but seriously, there needs to be some type of regulation on the types and amount of advertising allowed on television.

You can't even watch a movie on TV anymore. You can't ever get into it because of all the interruptions, and when it's not a commercial break, there are those @#$*!!! annoying pop-up ads that cover half of what you're watching!

The pop-ups should be banned, period. As for the rest, a set number of commercial breaks should be determined, and then the breaks should be strategically placed so as not to interrupt the flow of the program. Horror films are unwatchable on TV anymore, because every time the tension starts to build, you're deluged with ads for car insurance, McRibs, cell phones and tampons.

In the UK i think it is law that tv can only show 10 minutes of ads per hour and these are usually three or four minutes long spaced out nicely every 20 minutes.

Having said that i never watch anything with ads in, i allways record it and zap them out when i watch it back.

Some channels have more commercials than programming (see BBC America)

I think it's insane how Viagra commercials run rampant during sporting events...

the shows are usually 8 min adds and 22 minute programming, and proportionately for the others, 4/11, 16/44 etc.
