I hate KISS, but they should have been in long ago. Rush's absence is inexplicable. However, I think GnR deserves in righr away.

I am with you Anthony. G-N-R was never a fav of mine and I never got the appeal. I get Donovan and The Small Faces, but passing on the Spinners, Heart and War for GNR???

I liked GNR "back in the day" but "Appetite For Destruction" is really their only solid album...."Lies" is half covers, half old stuff, "Use Your Illusion I and II" have some good tunes but are really overblown and self-indulgent (at best it should have been one album without all the filler), "The Spaghetti Incident?" is ALL covers. So besides "AFD", the issue I have with GNR is what have they (and more specifically Axl) done for me lately. (No "Chinese Democracy" does not count). I've been having this debate with my younger cousin for about 2 months now and he just doesn't get it...

GNR are has-beens who "coulda been" but never were...They fizzled as quickly as they sparked....

mikey, of your list, i have to disagree on a few....Bob Marley deserves to be in there. he brought regae to the mainstream and had a lot of influence in his short life

van morrison as well.

the rest of them I would agree.

Rush never gets the respect they deserve. they are probably the most under rated band in history

Agree that GNR's only great album was "Appetite" but what an absolutely fantastic album it was. IMO they deserve it just for that album because it is one of my all time favourites. It captivated me when it first came out, and over 20 years later I'm not even close to sick of listening to it on a regular basis.

The Cure should go before GNR. More of a lasting impact and influence on the music scene than Axl ever could be.

I live in Cleveland and my brother has a membership to the hall of fame. When he spoke to an official abojt some of the ommitted artists, the guy said the 3 most asked about were KISS, Rush, and The Moody Blues. I pretty much agree with those. The guy said he had no explanation for the other 2, but KISS hasn't gotten in because so many people dislike Gene Simmons.

if that is true it shows what a joke the whole thing is....they are supposed to be inducted based on musical contribution...not on whether some of the members are jackasses.
simmons is a shrewd business man, but i have never noticed him to be nasty or obnoxious towards other people
now Axle Rose on the other hand, is a total tool

Joan Jett should be in. Kiss should be in. Heart should be in. Badfinger was Powerpop in the 70's...they aren't in.

Madonna shouldn't be in. As much as I love Earth Wind and Fire...they shouldn't be in.

I like the Beasties choice...mainly because they played their own instruments. Lot of people don't know that. They also were one of those Rap groups that brought rock into rap music...Run DMC being the first to do it. Is Clapton in as a solo artist?? I know he's in as a member of Cream, and I think he's in as a member of The Yardbirds.

I'm glad to see both the Beastie Boys and Chili Peppers get in. Without question, 2 of the greatest acts spawned from the 80s. Had to figure on GNR getting in as well, though it wasn't something I was pulling for or against. Its sure to be an interesting induction ceremony, that's for sure.

As for the acts that aren't in, I think there are a lot deserving, but the top for me are:

Rush
Yes
Heart
Joan Jett
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Kiss
Journey - While I truly think all the above should be in and eventually will be in, I don't think Journey will ever get in, they are just a personal favorite of mine and Arena rock bands get absolutely no credit - Journey was the cream of the crop of late 70s-early 80s Arena rock and Steve Perry's voice should be inducted all by itself.

And yes Berto, Clapton went in as a solo performer, so he's in there 3 times.

Bands like Journey get no respect from critics or rock hall voters. They were huge and of all the bands like them from that era, they should at least get strong consideration.

You beat me to it...especially RUSH...they friggin' rule...and they have arguably the best rock drummer in the universe (who can write songs with the best of them)...R&RHOF are nothing but a bunch of company YES men.
